About the role

This position offers the opportunity to apply your expertise in materials, structural analysis, structural steel design, and reinforced concrete design. You will work on a diverse range of projects involving power transmission modifications and upgrades, collaborating closely with clients and other engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Create calculations, design documents, and specifications for various structural components and systems.
  • Analyze and design steel frames, connections, concrete members, equipment, and foundations.
  • Develop integrated structural designs and perform supporting calculations.
  • Communicate technical information to clients and provide support documentation for structural engineering calculations.
  • Perform independent reviews of work performed by others, including calculations and drawing preparation.
  • Coordinate and guide other engineers, project managers, client personnel, and suppliers to ensure a complete and timely design.
  • Conduct reviews of existing facilities to propose upgrades and replacements, presenting findings and recommendations to clients and peers.
  • Participate in peer-learning activities through sharing of knowledge with other experienced engineers.
  • Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to substation locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs.

Qualifications

  • A BSCE or MSCE from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program with a strong academic background in materials, structural analysis, structural steel design, and reinforced concrete design.
  • 5 or more years of experience as a practicing structural engineer, preferably on project teams working on the design and upgrade of electrical substations.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to communicate with clients at an appropriate technical level.
  • Experience in writing and providing support documentation for structural engineering calculations.
  • Ability to complete assignments within budget and schedule with high accuracy.
  • Technically knowledgeable of structural engineering, including analysis for structural supports, loads, and design integrity.
  • Proficiency with relevant software such as MathCad, STAAD PRO, SAP2000, SAFE, RISA 3D, and RISA Floor.
  • Familiarity with design codes and standards like IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI 318.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English (read, speak, and write).
