Principal Duties
- Monitor consistency and accuracy in the following areas:
- Collect, disassemble, clean, decontaminate, inspect, and reassemble instrumentation for all user departments.
- Collect, clean, decontaminate patient care equipment from all units. Follow through with proper storage of equipment, i.e. placing on shelf, covering equipment, etc…
- Ensure all supplies needed for required work is available. I.e. towels, washcloths, approved cleaning supplies, soap, brushes, wrappers, etc…
- Monitor sterilization QA standards and procedures in CPD, i.e. Bowie Dick test, Biological tests, Chemical indicators, ETO sterilization process/Steam process and the verification records for each sterilization cycle by instrument Technicians is accurate.
- Reprocess, sterilize, and document all instrumentation following each procedure.
- Prioritize instrumentation for implementation to appropriate department.
- Ensure that all sterile and non-sterile supplies, equipment and inventory are available for implementation. I.e. baby blankets, cord clamps, rubber bands, single instruments, razors, tape, safety pins, webril, etc…
- Fill and deliver all case carts for user departments in a timely and accurate manner.
- Fill and maintain all specialty items, i.e. crash carts, invasive line, latex free, emergency respiratory boxes and disaster carts in a timely manner. Monitor this process for instrument Technicians. Reports progress to manager.
- Master computer skills in order to access programs used by department i.e. Orbit, Novell, Intranet, Citrix, CIS, Lawson and DMC web site.
- When appropriate, charge equipment via CIS application.
- Order items needed through Lawson application.
- Order specialty appliances and equipment for requestor departments and follow through with required paperwork.
- Complies with all customer service and process improvement philosophies. Understands and follows all hospital, health, human relations, federal, state and local safety, personnel and departmental policies, procedures, laws and guidelines. Meets all licensing and or certification accreditation requirements.
- Must be an active Certified, Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) or have certification through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).
- Certification requirements must be fulfilled and verified yearly as a requirement of this position.
- Master level knowledge of appropriate sterilization procedures, standards, local, state and federal laws.
- Master level knowledge of infection control with regard to all processes in Central Processing department.
- Master level knowledge in the care and use of all patient care equipment.
- Master level knowledge of surgical and obstetrical instrumentation.
- Master level knowledge of specialty instrumentation i.e. Orthopedic, Vascular, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Thoracic, etc…
- Leadership abilities to coordinate the work of others in all areas.
- Accountable for timely, accurate work flow outcomes in assigned areas.
- Able to fairly and impartially monitor, train, in-service and mentor Instrument Technicians in any/all areas of job responsibility.
- Able to make responsible decisions in stressful situations.
- Able to take charge in the absence of management.
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
