Senior/Staff Software Engineer - Planner Frameworks Pipeline

About the role

Zoox is seeking a skilled software engineer to join our team working on simulation pipelines that validate the behavior of our self-driving vehicles. These pipelines are data and GPU-intensive, built on Ray.io and Kubernetes, and play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our development processes.

Responsibilities

• Optimize production-grade APIs, SDKs, and tools for various validations of autonomous behaviors
• Improve ML training pipelines supporting autonomous behavior research
• Ensure the reliability and efficiency of large-scale, data and GPU-intensive pipelines
• Contribute to the framework's architecture and grow its capabilities to support new use cases
• Work closely with autonomy engineers to understand the end-to-end use case for these validation pipelines

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field with 8+ years of industry experience
• Experience optimizing large-scale distributed systems for cost and efficiency
• Proficiency with Python and familiarity with C++
• Experience with AWS or similar cloud providers

Qualifications

• Track record of maintaining high availability in production systems
• Understanding of the robotic data lifecycle (preferred)
• Experience with machine learning workloads (training, inference, data generation) from a cost optimization perspective
• Background in algorithmic optimization or performance investigation
• Experience with Ray.io, particularly Ray Core and Ray Data

Benefits

• Base Salary Range: $219,000 - $315,000 per year
