Senior/Staff Software Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Designing and Architecting Scalable Systems: Lead the design of distributed systems that integrate multiple components and services across Sovrn’s product ecosystem.
  • Driving Technical Excellence: Define best practices for system design, testability, documentation, and accessibility to ensure applications are secure, performant, and user-centric.
  • Leveraging AI and Automation: Use advanced development tools and AI to deliver secure, extensible, and efficient solutions that reduce dependencies and technical overhead.
  • Shaping Engineering Standards: Establish and maintain Service Level Objectives (SLOs)/Service Level Agreements (SLAs), coding and documentation standards, and architectural guidelines across teams.
  • Mentoring and Influencing: Coach engineers at all levels, building organizational capability in system thinking, collaboration, and architectural decision-making.
  • Aligning Technical Strategy: Partner cross-functionally with Product, Design, and Cloud Engineering to ensure architectural decisions align with Sovrn’s business strategy and growth goals.

Requirements

  • Deep expertise in scalable architecture, with proven experience designing and evolving distributed, multi-service systems.
  • Strong focus on performance, security, and compliance, with experience meeting SOC, ISO, and GDPR standards.
  • Advanced proficiency in automation and infrastructure, including Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and scripting (Python, Bash, or Go).
  • Strategic systems thinking, with the ability to anticipate future challenges and architect adaptable solutions.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership, capable of aligning executives, engineers, and cross-functional teams on complex technical initiatives.
  • A legacy of mentorship and impact, building technical acumen, shaping team culture, and developing engineers into stronger system thinkers and leaders.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience in software engineering, with a strong emphasis on scalable systems design and implementation.
  • Experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and familiarity with DevOps practices.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality, scalable software systems that meet or exceed performance and security standards.
  • Experience with data modeling, database design, and data management principles.
  • Experience with continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, or similar.
  • Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with microservices architecture and container orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
  • Experience with version control systems (Git).
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and Scrum.

Skills

  • Java, Python, Bash, Go, Terraform, CloudFormation.
  • Experience with Kafka (Redpanda), AWS, Databricks, Datadog, ONNX.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, Git, and Agile methodologies.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, or similar.
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks (JUnit, PyTest).
  • Experience with security best practices, including SOC, ISO, and GDPR compliance.
  • Experience with distributed systems, microservices, and service-oriented architectures.
  • Experience with performance optimization techniques and tools.
  • Experience with data modeling, database design, and data management principles.
  • Experience with security and compliance standards (SOC, ISO, GDPR).

Pay

The base salary for a Senior position is $155,000 to $185,000 annually, and for a Staff position, it is $170,000 to $200,000 annually. Actual base salary will depend on the candidate's education, experience, skills, and location.

Schedule

Full-time, remote work is available for this role.
