About the Role

The Senior Staff Scientist will work in the Transgenic Animal and Genome Editing facility at Cincinnati Children's. Responsibilities

• Design, execute, and optimize genome editing strategies (e.g., CRISPR/Cas9, TALENs, zinc finger nucleases) to generate genetically modified animal models.
• Perform microinjection, electroporation, and other techniques for delivering genome editing reagents into embryos or cells.
• Conduct molecular biology experiments, including PCR, genotyping, sequencing, and cloning, to validate genome edits.
• Manage and maintain transgenic animal colonies, including breeding, genotyping, and record-keeping.
• Collaborate with researchers to develop and troubleshoot custom genome editing projects.
• Stay current with advancements in genome editing technologies and implement new methods as needed.
• Train and supervise junior staff, students, or researchers in genome editing techniques and best practices.
• Prepare and present data, reports, and protocols for internal and external audiences.
• Ensure compliance with institutional, federal, and ethical guidelines for animal research and genetic engineering.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of postdoctoral or industry experience in genome editing or transgenic animal production.
• Extensive hands-on experience with CRISPR/Cas9 and other genome editing technologies in animal models (e.g., mice, rats, or other species).
• Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, cloning, and sequencing.
• Experience with microinjection, embryo handling, and animal husbandry for transgenic model generation.
• Strong track record of scientific publications or contributions to genome editing projects.
• Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with large animal genome editing (e.g., pigs, rabbits) or non-mammalian models (e.g., zebrafish, Drosophila).
• Familiarity with bioinformatics tools for guide RNA design and off-target analysis.
• Experience with conditional knockout strategies, knock-in models, or base editing.
• Prior supervisory or mentoring experience in a core facility or research lab.
