Responsibilities
- Prepare and record complex journal entries accurately and timely, ensuring financial transactions are properly documented and reflected in the general ledger.
- Perform monthly balance sheet and income statement account reconciliations, investigating and resolving variances to maintain the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
- Aid in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes by coordinating close activities, analyzing account activity, resolving accounting issues, and ensuring reporting deadlines are consistently met.
- Reconcile cash accounts, premium activity, claims activity, stop-loss reimbursement activity, and other key financial accounts to ensure complete and accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare and analyze financial reports and management reporting packages for internal and external stakeholders that identify trends, variances, and key business insights.
- Serve as the accounting subject matter expert for assigned processes, partnering with internal stakeholders to provide accounting guidance and ensure financial activities are accurately reflected.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing supporting schedules, responses to auditor inquiries, and ensuring timely completion of audit requests.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements while recommending process improvements that strengthen internal controls and enhance accounting operations.
- Mentor and provide guidance to finance team members, sharing accounting knowledge, promoting best practices, and supporting the development of efficient financial processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- At least 4 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, and data analysis.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications
- Experience in health insurance, self-funded health plans, employee benefits administration, or healthcare-related accounting is highly preferred.
- Experience with stop-loss insurance accounting, claims reimbursement accounting, insurance carrier reconciliations, or healthcare claims accounting is a significant plus.

Pay
Salary range: $85,000 - $105,000 annually.
Schedule
Hybrid work environment with at least two days per week required to be in the Austin office, with occasional travel as needed.
