About the role
The University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center Downtown (located at 500 E. Market Street, Iowa City, IA) Radiology Department is seeking a Senior Sonographer, Pay Grade 7, based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Candidates should indicate their preferred position in their cover letter.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the instruction of co-workers and students as required as well as in the review, updating and development of new procedures as they become available.
- Assists physicians in advanced sonographic procedures such as biopsies, amniocentesis, and similar activities.
- Completes required continuing education as needed in order to maintain ARDMS certification.
- Collaborates with nursing units, referring offices, and within the Radiology department to coordinate procedures.
- Interviews patients and records medical history relative to ultrasound examinations.
- Identifies, accesses, and prepares medications as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
- Maintains all equipment by safe, cautious and proper use, communicating any malfunctions to the appropriate supervisor immediately.
- Prepares patients and determines technical factors to be used in ultrasound examinations.
- Provides for care and protection of patients during procedures, assuming care for the emotional, psychological and physical needs while adhering to The Joint Commission patient safety goals.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- CAAHEP accredited or equivalent program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography or Vascular Technology, or Completion of a two-year or more accredited health science program (i.e. Radiologic Technology, Medical Technology, Nursing, etc.) plus completion of a twelve-month formal education program in Sonography, or Completion of a bachelor’s degree plus completion of a twelve-month formal education program in Sonography.
- Board-eligible or certified by ARDMS within 1.5 months of hire.
- Board-eligible or RVT certified by ARDMS within 1.5 months of hire.
- Board-eligible or certified in Abdomen and OB/GYN by ARDMS – Preferred.
- Certification in BCLS within 6 months of hire – Required.
- Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare or science related field – Highly Desired.
Qualifications
- Extensive (3-5 years) progressively responsible experience in diagnostic medical sonography.
- Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or other nationally recognized accreditation organizations for primary specialty.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience providing clinical education to students and sonographers and residents.
- Bachelor’s degree in Radiation Sciences – Highly Desired.
Benefits
Current UI employees are not eligible for sign-on bonuses. Selective candidates may be eligible for a sign-on bonus of $10,000.
Pay
$50,000 - $80,000 annually
