About the role

As a Senior Software Engineer – Web/Node, you will design, build, and scale customer-facing mobile experiences powering Walmart’s Profile and Wallet journeys. You’ll work on high-impact Web/GraphQL applications used by millions daily, reducing friction and simplifying everyday shopping. You will own Subgraph/Web FE design and architecture, lead early technical discovery, and collaborate with backend partners to integrate GraphQL-based APIs. Your work transforms complex identity and payment data into intuitive, polished experiences, while championing modern Web/Node JS dev practices, performance, accessibility, testing, and production reliability through strong engineering standards, thoughtful trade-offs, and continuous improvement at enterprise scale across critical customer journeys and platform capabilities.

About the team

Our team empowers Walmart customers to manage their profile, addresses, and wallet with confidence and ease. We own Walmart’s foundational Profile and Wallet platforms, delivering secure, scalable identity and payment capabilities that are consumed across channels and products throughout the customer journey. As a Senior Software Engineer – Web/Node on this team, you’ll help shape the Web FE and GraphQL layer of these platforms through GraphQL-driven integrations and close collaboration with backend, product, and design partners. Our team works closely with our US stores and eCommerce business to better serve customers by empowering team members, stores, and merchants with technological innovation. From groceries and entertainment to sporting goods and crafts, Walmart U.S. offers an extensive selection that our customers value, whether they shop online at Walmart.com, through one of our mobile apps, or in-store. Focus areas include customers, stores and employees, in-store service, merchant tools, merchant data science, and search and personalization.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and ship high-quality Web/GraphQL applications supporting Profile and Wallet customer journeys at scale.
  • Lead server integrations with GraphQL APIs, efficiently consuming identity, address, and payment data.
  • Lead early technical discovery for medium-to-large initiatives, translating product strategy into scalable Web/GraphQL solutions.
  • Drive collaboration with backend engineers to evolve API contracts serving mobile needs.
  • Build features using NodeJS, TypeScript, ReactJS with modern architecture patterns.
  • Apply asynchronous programming and concurrency for responsive experiences.
  • Own production readiness through debugging, root-cause analysis, and stability improvements.
  • Ensure performance, security, reliability, and accessibility through testing and monitoring.
  • Lead code reviews and design discussions, influencing mobile standards.
  • Drive improvements in CI/CD, testing, and release quality.

Requirements

  • Strong experience building and shipping production-grade Web/GraphQL applications using NodeJS, ReactJS, TypeScript.
  • Hands-on experience integrating mobile applications with GraphQL APIs, including data handling and error scenarios.
  • Solid understanding of REST API architecture patterns, performance optimization, and the application lifecycle.
  • Experience with NodeJS and ReactJS, Redux, React Query, Next.js, TypeScript, including building adaptive, accessible, and user-focused interfaces.
  • Knowledge of HTTP protocols and frontend performance optimization.
  • Experience collaborating closely with backend teams on API design and integration strategies.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and observability for mobile platforms.
  • Strong debugging skills with the ability to navigate complex, cross-layer issues.
  • Experience guiding application-design decisions in large-scale, customer-facing environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with R2, release readiness, or similar quality and validation frameworks.
  • Experience with mobile automation frameworks supporting testing, release validation, or operational readiness.
  • Exposure to AI-assisted developer productivity tools (e.g., code assistance, test generation, debugging).
  • Familiarity working with design collaboration tools such as Figma to review and implement product designs.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive mobile UI practices.

Pay

The annual salary range for this position is $117,000.00 - $234,000.00. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include stock.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
