Senior Software Engineer, Open Source Server

Our client develops an open source programming model designed to simplify code, enhance application reliability, and enable developers to focus on delivering features more efficiently. Operating within the software development tools industry, the organization addresses challenges in developer experience and software reliability by providing a foundational distributed systems platform used by a large open source community and enterprise customers.

About the Opportunity

This role focuses on building and maintaining the core server platform that supports the organization's programming model. You will enhance system reliability, performance, and developer experience by designing and implementing features across various server components. The position is hands-on, requiring collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and operationally sound distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and deliver features for the core server.
• Address distributed systems challenges including task matching, scheduling, workflow execution, and resource management.
• Make informed engineering tradeoffs balancing developer experience, performance, and operability.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and customer-facing teams to create scalable solutions.
• Enhance system reliability and operability through testing, observability, and documentation.
• Participate in design discussions and code reviews to maintain code quality.
• Improve the developer experience for both open source users and enterprise clients.
• Mentor junior engineers and share technical knowledge.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience with production distributed systems.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems fundamentals, concurrency, fault tolerance, and performance.
• Proficiency in concurrent programming with languages such as Go or Java.
• Experience building high-scale or performance-sensitive backend services.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and operational skills.
• Experience designing backend APIs or platform services.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
• Familiarity with open source software, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and technologies like Elasticsearch, Kubernetes, and various databases is a plus.

Pay

The estimated pay range for this role is $176,000 to $237,600, depending on experience and location. You will also be eligible to participate in the organization’s equity plan.
