About the role

Chime Engineering is growing rapidly as we scale to support the financial needs of our members. We are looking for driven engineers to join our Membership team, where you'll work across the full stack, building and evolving the features that deepen member engagement, drive retention, and deliver ongoing value through Chime's membership experience. You will own projects end-to-end, from shaping architecture and designing APIs to building polished front-end experiences and maintaining the ongoing health of the code.

Pay

The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $164,000 and up to $227,000. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and scale features across backend services and front-end surfaces that power membership benefits, rewards, and engagement experiences
  • Build and iterate on APIs and UI components that deliver a seamless, high-quality member experience in Chime's mobile app
  • Partner with product, design, data science, and cross-functional stakeholders to understand member needs, define experiments, and ship solutions that move key membership metrics
  • Apply a metrics-driven mindset to decision-making and prioritize efforts based on member and business impact
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve system reliability, performance, and scalability across the stack
  • Contribute to a culture of technical excellence through mentorship, code reviews, and driving best practices

Requirements

  • 5+ years developing software in a production environment at scale
  • Proven experience with Ruby on Rails or comparable frameworks
  • Proficiency with modern front-end technologies (e.g., React, React Native, or TypeScript-based frameworks)
  • A product mindset with a strong bias toward experimentation, iteration, and measuring impact
  • A collaborative spirit and strong communication skills, with experience working cross-functionally
  • Experience working with transactional databases, caching systems, and API design
  • Comfort working across the stack and a desire to understand how all the pieces fit together
  • Experience with experimentation frameworks and data-driven product development is a plus

Qualifications

  • Experience working with Chime's technology stack
  • Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure and deployment strategies
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing
  • Knowledge of security best practices and compliance standards
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and Scrum

Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

Schedule

Our in-office work policy is designed to keep you connected - with four days a week in the office and Fridays from home for those near one of our offices, plus team and company-wide events depending on location. Whether you’re coming in regularly or are part of our fully remote program, you’ll stay engaged with your work and teammates.
