Senior Software Engineer - Game Engine Network (C++)
Overview
The Engine Networking Team at Roblox ensures the communication of the game state to all players, enabling a nearly synchronous experience. This role involves working on a powerful user-space network stack, large multithreaded distributed systems, and various devices including desktops, phones, and consoles. The ideal candidate should have 4+ years of experience in game networking, familiarity with game engines, strong systems-level C++ skills, and a deep understanding of network stacks.
Responsibilities
- Ensure real-time communication of game state across all platforms
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve player experience
- Optimize network stack for scalability, performance, latency, and throughput
- Develop and maintain network protocols and infrastructure
- Debug and troubleshoot network issues affecting player experience
Requirements
- Experience with powerful user-space network stacks
- Experience with large multithreaded distributed systems
- Familiarity with network protocols and common operating systems
- Experience with Linux networking
- Strong C++ programming skills
- Understanding of game engines and their integration with networking
Qualifications

The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs, and market demand. Roles based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA are typically onsite on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
