About the role
The Senior, Software Engineer (Back End) will be part of the Catalog Engineering team and responsible for developing high performance and scalable Catalog Service meeting the needs of millions of Walmart customers. They will design and develop integrations with downstream applications built on an event-driven platform using a micro-service architecture.
Responsibilities
- Design & develop highly scalable services and solve complex software systems problems by leveraging state-of-the-art technology.
- Lead by example, showing exceptional and experienced developer skills.
- Troubleshoot business and production issues by gathering information and engaging support teams to resolve issues.
- Perform root cause analysis to prevent future occurrences of issues and ensure compliance with Walmart code of conduct.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members to ensure compliance with Walmart code of conduct.
- Work in an Agile environment, adhering to best practices and collaborating with teams to deliver results.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest GenAI trends and technologies and contribute to the development of innovative solutions that improve the Seller and supplier experience on our Catalog platform.
Requirements
- Expert-level knowledge of Java and experience building Java-based backend systems.
- Experience in internet-scale distributed technologies (e.g. Solr, Kafka, Mem Cache, etc.).
- Deep understanding of Spark engine.
- Extensive knowledge of offline storage, caching, and performance tuning.
- Experience with cloud-based solutions and hands-on experience with CI/CD development environments/tools, including Git, Maven, and Jenkins.
- Strong understanding of CS Fundamentals, Microservices, Data Structures, Algorithms, and Problem Solving.
- Familiarity with GenAI best practices, such as: Experience with NoSQL Databases like Cosmos DB, Cassandra and ability to design and implement scalable data models.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud-native development, and microservices architecture.
- Experience with containerization using Docker and orchestration using Kubernetes.
- Strong understanding of DevOps practices, including continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous monitoring.
Qualifications
- Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
- Option 2: 5 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 1 year's experience in software engineering or related area.
- Knowledge of creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
