Senior Social Video Producer

Duties and responsibilities

  • Edit, short and long-form social videos that engage readers and reflect the voice of Hearst Connecticut.
  • Pitch and produce original videos that are both informative and entertaining.
  • Optimize videos across platforms by demonstrating a strong understanding of audience metrics, engagement tactics and search engine optimization.
  • Communicate effectively and collaboratively across departments during breaking and planned news events.
  • Contribute to experiments using new technologies within our editorial guidelines.
  • Help build and maintain a library of video assets.
  • Able to shoot high-quality and raw video, if necessary.
  • Participate in news meetings to learn how stories take shape and better understand which audiences we’re trying to reach.

Qualifications

  • Strong editorial judgment with experience in a deadline-driven news environment.
  • Experience editing video, photos and audio in tools like Canva, Photoshop or Premiere, preferably in a newsroom environment.
  • Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills.
  • Well-versed in quickturn social video editing for platforms like Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts.
  • Quick, organized, technical problem solver who is able to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in journalism, English, communications or related field preferred.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule for breaking news and special content opportunities, including nights and weekends.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with a proven ability to effectively juggle multiple tasks.

Commensurate with experience.
