About the role
The Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) at Braze is responsible for maintaining the smooth operation of internal services and platforms, ensuring high system reliability and maximum infrastructure uptime. This role blends the responsibilities of system administrators and software engineers, applying sound engineering principles, operational discipline, and mature automation to production environments.
This position focuses on supporting the Braze Ruby on Rails monolith and the growing fleet of Go API services. It involves working closely with product engineering teams to translate high-level feature requirements into reliable, scalable technology stacks, particularly focusing on the ingress fleets and API ingestion layers.
Responsibilities
- Lead NGINX & Kubernetes Ingress Infrastructure
- Architect and Operate Ingress Fleets
- Own and Expand Scaling Routines
- Partner with Product Teams on Resilient Architectures
- Manage SLIs, SLOs, and Error Budgets
- Conduct Systems Design & Capacity Planning
- Manage Incident Response & On-Call Excellence
- Lead Blameless Retrospectives
Requirements
- Professional Experience: 5+ years in DevOps or SRE in high-scale production environments
- NGINX Mastery: Hands-on experience with high-performance NGINX proxying, routing, and ingress controller layers
- Kubernetes Orchestration: In-depth proficiency with Kubernetes administration
- Linux Fundamentals: Excellent understanding of Linux/Unix internals
- Programming Proficiency: Strong programming/scripting skills, preferably in Ruby or Go
- Infrastructure as Code: Experience with IaC technologies like Terraform, Ansible, Chef
- Systems Thinking: Strong understanding of systems design
Qualifications
- Data Technologies: Familiarity with data-tier architectures in the Braze stack
- Observability Systems: Experience with monitoring and profiling tools
- Cloud Infrastructures: Practical experience with major cloud environments
Skills
- Deep hands-on experience with NGINX and Kubernetes
- Strong programming/scripting skills (Ruby/Go preferred)
