About the role
This position plans, organizes, and conducts various leisure-time and physical activities for aging Fulton County citizens.
Responsibilities
- Assists with and/or performs planning, organizing, promoting and directing of assigned senior programs and activities.
- in addition to the instruction of classes, responsibilities may include fund raising, preparing flyers, planning, directing volunteers, and setting up for special events.
- Counsels participants on health and wellness issues.
- conducts assigned classes for participants of different fitness/cognitive levels; recruits participants for new and existing classes; researches activities desired/requested by participants; and obtains instruction in activities.
- Develops class curriculum and class calendars.
- conducted needs assessments to plan and develop recreational activities around clients' needs and capabilities; researches best practices for assigned area participation; and develops re-assessment milestones to determine progression proficiency of participants.
- Collects and analyzes data related to assigned program and maintains database of participants.
- coordinates senior programming activities with community groups and other agencies: recruits, screens, and trains volunteers, interns majoring in therapeutic recreation, and other community service providers in support of senior programs.

- inspects facilities, grounds, and equipment for unsafe conditions: prepares assigned facility for classes/events; sets up tables and chairs, exercise equipment, or audio or visual; arranges facilities, meeting rooms and equipment according to daily schedules, programs and projects of the assigned area.
- Enforces established safety precautions, policies, procedures, and regulations of the area of assignment.
- assists with front desk administration: provides telephone and walk in customer service; provides information and answers questions; assists with program registration; takes and delivers messages; and directs individuals to appropriate department or individual as needed.
- Ensures adequate inventory of equipment and supplies for area of assignment.
- oversees facility operations related to assigned class instruction: opens and closes facilities; locks and unlocks doors and windows at appropriate times; checks lights; sets and clears security alarm; and maintains temperature settings of heat or air conditioning.
- Processes a variety of documentation associated with department operations.

- Performs routine cleaning and/or maintenance of assigned grounds, facilities, and equipment and inspects such for proper and safe operating condition.

Requirements
- Associate's Degree in recreation, therapeutic recreation, or a related field required; supplemented by two years of experience teaching therapeutic or recreational programs; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Qualifications
- Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.

- Ability to process a variety of documentation associated with department operations: maintains sign-in sheets for activities or events; compiles figures for assigned activity and enters in monthly reports; maintains records of income and expenses; prepares documents such as daily cash reports, attendance records, registration forms, work orders, receipts, vehicle maintenance logs, or other items; ensures all administrative work performed is properly recorded, filed, and processed according to department policy and procedure.
