Senior Service Shop Lead

About the role

The Service Lead at Sunstate Equipment Co. plays a crucial role in assisting the Branch Manager and/or Service Manager with shop flow and service quality to ensure timely, accurate service and repair to the rental and delivery fleet.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize and assign repairs of all “downed” equipment to ensure it is quickly brought back into service within company guidelines.
• Perform regular preventative maintenance and major repairs approximately 75% of the time.
• Ensure that all mechanics properly and timely complete documentation, monitor part orders and expenses.
• Maintain safety, process, and technical performance and training.
• Provide frequent feedback to service leadership on shop activities and individual performance.
• Collaborate to establish daily work priorities of shop and yard employees.
• Facilitate effective communication with shop via huddles, meetings, and one-on-one interactions.
• Aid in key decisions regarding all major equipment repairs, ensuring that any warranty or customer damage issues are promptly addressed and communicated to the Service and/or Branch Manager.
• Ensure adequate availability of essential shop supplies, and utilize part books and requisition forms to accurately order parts seamless operations.
• Serve as a liaison between the shop and office, addressing equipment issues such as breakdowns, customer damage, etc.
• Demonstrate and instruct advanced troubleshooting / diagnoses and repair techniques for equipment.
• Provide training on repairing gas and diesel engines, complex hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and drive trains to include manual and power shift transmissions on equipment and trucks.
• Conduct thorough inspections, servicing, testing, and refueling equipment prior to tagging it “Ready to Rent.”
• Maintain accurate records documenting equipment maintenance and repair, including field service paperwork.
• Maintain a clean and orderly shop environment, particularly in personal work areas, by returning tools to designated locations, clearing benches, and sweeping or mopping the shop area at the end of each workday.
• Assist with equipment support yard duties including customer assistance, and occasionally washing or staging equipment.
• Deliver or pick-up equipment to or from job sites as needed.
• Promptly report safety incidents/violations to Branch and/or Service Manager.
• Aid in training new mechanics.
• Maintain company vehicles in accordance with established standards.

Requirements

Consistently adhere to safety policies, procedures, and guidelines. Possess mechanical knowledge of construction equipment. Basic computer and typing skills. Ability to grasp and apply new information quickly. Ability to focus on details and complete tasks with accuracy. Ability to read, write, and speak English, bilingual is a plus. Full range of motion, agility, and strength to lift one's body into/out of large vehicles, trailers, equipment. Capable of normally lifting 25 lbs., frequently lifting 50 lbs., and occasionally lifting 90 lbs. with the assistance of mechanical aid or lift assistance. Minimum age of 21 years required to drive. Company vehicles require a valid driver license and ability to maintain a good driving record qualifying to safely drive a Company vehicle for work purposes.

Capable of normally lifting 25 lbs., frequently lifting 50 lbs., and occasionally lifting 90 lbs. with the assistance of mechanical aid or lift assistance. Minimum age of 21 years required to drive. Company vehicles require a valid driver license and ability to maintain a good driving record qualifying to safely drive a Company vehicle for work purposes.

Skills

Ability to grasp and apply new information quickly. Ability to focus on details and complete tasks with accuracy. Ability to read, write, and speak English, bilingual is a plus. Mechanical knowledge of construction equipment. Basic computer and typing skills.
