About the role
This role ensures all security activities at Bald Mountain Mine (BMM) and associated properties, as well as exploration facilities in Nevada, comply with Global Security standards and guidelines. The Senior Security Supervisor serves as the security subject matter expert at BMM, leading the implementation of the Global Security Standardization Program (GSSP) with consistency and uniformity. The position reports to the Kinross Nevada H&S Manager, with functional and technical accountability to the US Security Manager.
Responsibilities
- Manage all day-to-day strategic and tactical security elements at BMM, associated properties, and the Exploration office in Reno.
- Serve as a security business partner to all BMM departments, providing oversight and guidance as needed.
- Ensure BMM security operations align with the Global Security Standardization Program by:
- Developing Site Security Plans (SSP) and Security Event Response Plans (SERP) for the mine site and other Kinross facilities.
- Conducting security reviews, internal self-assessments, and audits.
- Preparing and updating mine site vulnerability assessments.
- Developing a comprehensive security performance testing program to assess the security team's effectiveness, site procedures, and equipment.
- Conducting credible threat assessments and designing security systems to mitigate these threats.
- Evaluating the effectiveness of the mine site’s security programs.
- Incorporating security into training exercises to improve individual, collective, and organizational capabilities.
- Design and implement security projects tailored to the mine site’s needs.
- Work with HR and Health and Safety departments to conduct drug and alcohol testing for employees and contractors in alignment with MSHA requirements.
- Ensure proper security measures for gold-bearing materials (GBM) areas in accordance with Kinross Gold Security Standards.
- Maintain 24-hour on-call coverage for security incidents and emergencies, including availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, or outside normal scheduled hours as needed.
- Oversee security team management, including determining personnel and training requirements, and creating written policies and procedures for security operations.
- Develop post-incident reports for review and analysis.
- Design and develop a security material control and accounting program for products and materials, fuel, explosives, weapons and ammunition, chemicals, etc.
- Serve as the lead security business partner to all departments to capture security requirements and implement mitigation programs.
- Develop a robust internal and external communications program and oversee the supply chain security program.
- Develop and conduct training for all business units, incorporating the Human Rights Adherence and Verification Program into all security functions.
- Develop access control systems consistent with mine site requirements.
- Serve as the Bald Mountain investigations lead on security investigations, liaising with the Vice President of Global Security, the Global Security Director for Operations, the US Security Manager, and US Legal Counsel.
- Use Kinross Global Security technologies and data management systems (e.g., security event management systems, action items program, Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) programs).
- Build and maintain relationships with public security, promoting discussions on Human Rights and best security practices.
- Act as a security advisor on local security matters, integrating Site Crisis Management Teams (SCMT) during incidents.
- Implement budgeting and financial planning for the BMM Security Department, focusing on cost-effective resource management.
- Develop and oversee a security program to address workplace violence and active assailant situations, including training and mitigation strategies.
Qualifications
- Minimum college diploma or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
- Minimum of eight years of professional-level experience in the security industry, law enforcement, or military. Prior experience in mining or other heavy industrial sectors is preferred.
- Formal training and qualification as a security professional; ASIS Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or Physical Security Professional (PSP) certification preferred.
- Demonstrated experience serving in a leadership capacity within industrial security, law enforcement, military, or comparable security operations.
- Strong working knowledge of security operating procedures, safety rules, company policies, emergency response procedures, and applicable MSHA requirements.
- Experience in business continuity, crisis management, emergency response, and incident management.
- Specialized knowledge and experience conducting security investigations, including evidence identification, collection, preservation, documentation, and report preparation.
- Strong incident report writing, documentation, and presentation skills.
- Excellent verbal, written, analytical, interpersonal, and persuasive communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees, contractors, visitors, law enforcement, and all levels of management.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders while promoting positive attitudes, safe work practices, and adherence to company standards.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and the use of computers, security systems, and communication devices to support security operations.
- Ability to function independently, exercise sound judgment, and perform security responsibilities with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, manage and prioritize multiple competing responsibilities, respond to changing conditions, and meet deadlines.
