About the role
Help build and protect a critical part of Schwab’s growth through software-engineering-driven quality practices and automation-first delivery.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Mobile automation frameworks and test utilities as software products (UI + API) using Java and tools such as Appium, Reqnroll, and related technologies supporting critical features in Schwab Mobile Retail and Retirement features.
- Drive QA release process, activities, unblock issues with collaboration from engineering, product teams. Partner closely with developers and architects on design discussions to ensure testability, automation coverage, and quality gates are built in from the start (shift-left).
- Modernize initiatives by enabling faster, safer integrations through automated testing of APIs and foundational services, integrated into CI/CD.
- Improve platform stability, performance, and resilience by building automated checks (functional, contract, performance) and proactively identifying risks before they reach production.
- Support modernization of legacy components, ensuring compliance, risk remediation, and industry leading quality standards are maintained.
- Leverage AI assisted testing and automation techniques to improve efficiency, coverage, and defect detection.
- Own automation outcomes and look for continuous improvements for test automation stability and coverage. Partner with all QA teams, pairing with engineers, contributing code, and ensuring every sprint ships with reliable automated coverage.
- Write and review technical design docs for automation approaches; contribute to coding standards, refactoring, and code reviews for test code and related utilities.
- Lead through influence by guiding peers, facilitating collaboration, and providing timely feedback that improves team outcomes.
Requirements
- Strong proficiency with Appium for mobile test automation
- Hands-on coding in Java or other object-oriented languages
- Working knowledge of XCUI (iOS) and/or Espresso (Android)
- Experience with test management and defect tracking tools (JIRA, Zephyr, or similar)
- Agile/Scrum methodologies and ceremonies
- Mobile development lifecycles (iOS/Android)
- CI/CD practices (Bitrise or Github Actions)
Qualifications
- BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3-5 years mobile application testing (iOS/Android) with 3+ years in test automation
Core Competencies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with strategic thinking ability
- Able to explore industry trends in QE/Tools
- Excellent verbal and written communication across technical and non-technical audiences
- Proven ability to coordinate geographically distributed teams
- Self-motivated; works effectively both independently and collaboratively
Preferred Qualifications
- AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Cursor) for test development
- Performance testing tools and methodologies
- Security testing and data compliance requirements
- Financial services or trading platform experience
- Kotlin and/or Swift programming languages
- Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers
