Senior Scientist - Cardiometabolic Disorders

About the role

Join Amgen’s mission of serving patients. As a Senior Scientist in Cardiometabolic Disorders, you will be an ideator and drug hunter, conducting biology research and identifying therapeutic targets in cardiometabolic disease. You will propose and advance drug discovery programs based on a sound scientific rationale, including validation from human genetics and clinical studies. This role requires critical thinking, ingenuity, and the ability to design mechanistic studies and conduct reproducible in vivo and in vitro pharmacology studies. You will collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment and initially work at the bench or vivarium, focusing on osteoporosis and metabolic disease. Over time, you will demonstrate leadership by managing a team of scientists and supporting other drug discovery programs in the Cardiometabolic Disorders portfolio.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize and propose therapeutic targets for the treatment of bone disease and cardiometabolic disease.
• Design and perform in vitro and/or in vivo experiments.
• Independently perform data analysis and interpret results.
• Communicate scientific results through written and oral presentations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance therapeutic candidates.
• Document studies in electronic laboratory notebooks and study reports.
• Advise colleagues in areas of expertise.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• Doctorate degree (PhD, PharmD, or MD) with relevant postdoctoral experience where applicable, or
• Master’s degree and 3 years of experience in bone metabolism and bone disease, or
• Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience in bone metabolism and bone disease.

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD with postdoctoral experience in bone metabolism and metabolic disease (industry experience strongly preferred).
• Strong target ideation capabilities and critical thinking to enable discovery of innovative medicines.
• Exceptional in vivo and/or in vitro pharmacology skills, with the ability to independently design, implement, and analyze studies.
• Technical mastery of molecular biology and cell-signaling analysis techniques (e.g., immunoblotting, immunocytochemistry, RT-qPCR, immunoprecipitation, ELISA).
• Basic knowledge of statistical methods applied rigorously to data sets.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with strong interpersonal abilities for team interactions.
• Ability to collaborate cross-functionally in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Capability to deliver high-quality manuscripts, posters, and presentations for peer-reviewed publication and conferences.
• Understanding of human genetics and genomic data mining for target identification (a plus).
• High commitment to data reproducibility and integrity.
