Senior Safety Risk Specialist, Float, 32 Hours

About the role

The Senior Patient Safety and Risk Float Specialist will support the Sr. Managers of Patient Safety and Risk to oversee and manage hospital-wide patient safety initiatives and daily work at sites within the Community Division. This role serves as a flexible resource, providing expert coverage during absences, peak volumes, or special projects across multiple hospitals and care settings. The Senior Float Specialist advances Equity Informed High Reliability concepts, coordinates projects across academic and operational departments, and mentors other patient safety staff. This position requires adaptability, emotional intelligence, and professionalism, as the specialist will work in various environments with distinct cultures, workflows, and population needs. The ideal candidate thrives in dynamic settings, demonstrates strong critical thinking, and maintains a consistent, compassionate presence during challenging moments.

Responsibilities

• Provide interim or surge support for patient safety and risk management services across assigned hospitals and departments.
• Work collaboratively with leadership and committees to facilitate the internal medical peer review process, analyze serious patient concerns related to clinical care and/or unexpected outcomes, and adverse events.
• Identify trends by collecting data and other supportive information to improve clinical quality systems and performance.
• Actively participate in the analysis of adverse events and serious patient concerns, and in follow-up visits of regulatory or accreditation agencies.
• Safeguard, preserve, and maintain confidentiality of all peer review, performance improvement, and risk management information.
• Recommend corrective and preventive actions to reduce risk.
• Collaborate with CRICO and hospital-based improvement teams on interventions.
• Participate in educational offerings to enhance and maintain knowledge of current and developing research and trends in patient safety and risk management.
• Work independently with minimal supervision and set priorities to meet daily tasks and project deadlines.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required.
• 3-5 years of progressive healthcare experience; strong clinical background.
• Experience working in a large and complex healthcare organization preferred.
• Presentation skills; verbal and written communication skills; project management skills.
• Advanced knowledge of MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) is essential.

• Must be available to work in the case of a hospital-declared emergency or to assist during regulatory agency reviews.

Pay

Annual pay range: $79,560.00 - $115,720.80
