About the role

Southland Industries is seeking a Senior Safety Coordinator to promote and regulate safety procedures, ensuring compliance with all safety requirements. This role involves coordinating division safety activities, inspecting job sites, and implementing corrective measures to prevent accidents and health hazards.

Responsibilities

  • Support and promote general safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA rules.
  • Tour and inspect job sites to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards; report findings and recommend corrective or preventative measures.
  • Work with outside contractors on job sites to assess and address safety issues.
  • Maintain knowledge of company safety policies and enforce them among co-workers.
  • Ensure the safety of crews by planning and executing site safety requirements.
  • Maintain all site-required documentation related to safety, including accident reports, inspection reports, and training logs.
  • Review daily job hazard analyses.
  • Assist employees in providing emergency response as needed.
  • Devise and coordinate training programs or media to increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness.
  • Participate in the investigation of accidents and injuries, compiling information for organizational use.
  • Compile and submit accident reports required by regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct safety meetings and provide on-site safety training.
  • Maintain excellent field presence to monitor safety performance.
  • Recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective procedures.
  • Strive for continued growth of professional knowledge and skills.
  • Assume additional assignments or tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health, and Environmental Applied Sciences or a related discipline (preferred).
  • Certifications in CPR and First Aid (preferred).
  • OSHA 10hr, OSHA 30hr, or OSHA 500 certification (preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in a related field.
  • Effective people skills, basic communication skills, and considerable problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong work ethic and critical thinking skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to access OSHA information via the internet.
  • Knowledge of health and safety management systems.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA CFR 1926 standards or state construction safety regulations.
  • Ability to perform onsite jobsite inspections.
  • Professional and mature demeanor when working with project personnel.
