Senior Roadway Engineer

About the role

STV has an immediate need for a Senior Roadway Engineer in our Raleigh, Charlotte, or Winston‑Salem, North Carolina offices within the Transportation Division.

Responsibilities

• Provide project management and professional design services for transportation improvement projects for municipal agencies, local governments, and NCDOT.
• Manage design, provide senior‑level functional designs, and perform QC for roadway geometry and details, drainage, work zone traffic control, pavement markings, and signing.
• Interact with client management teams, engineers in other technical disciplines, and marketing teams.
• Use MicroStation and Geopak for design.
• Coordinate design development and provide technical direction to other design staff.
• Ensure quality deliverables within schedule and budget.
• Assist with development of specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports.
• Work with practice/office leadership, client development, business development, and industry participation to advance career and STV’s growth.
• Facilitate and lead project meetings within STV and with clients.
• Create, maintain, and monitor scopes, fees, schedules, staffing projections, risk registers, sub‑agreements, QC records, deliverable submittals, and invoices.
• Establish working relationships with client technical staff and project managers.
• Mentor supporting civil design staff.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10+ years of experience in all technical aspects of roadway design or bridge design.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.
• NC PE license required or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Experience in project management and design of intersections, roundabouts, interchanges, widenings, and bike/ped facilities.
• Experience with NCDOT and other North Carolina municipalities.
• Strong interpersonal skills for client and multidisciplinary engineering interaction.
• Self‑starter with excellent communication skills.
• Comprehensive understanding of pre‑construction project management of roadway and bridge projects.
