Senior Resident Assistant (College Student Position)
About the role
The Senior Resident Assistant (SRAs) is a live-in student staff member committed to the personal and academic success of residents within the community. The SRAs provide leadership and support to a team of Resident Assistants, while also overseeing the daily operations and administrative support of The Towers.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Resident Assistants to develop creative initiatives and activities.
- Encourage and promote student involvement and engagement within the residential community.
- Co-Advise the Residence Hall Association. Attend weekly general body meetings, train the executive board, attend e-board meetings, and support RHA programs and initiatives.
- Be available to residents and maintain high level of visibility in the buildings and community.
- Serve as a resource for residents, providing information on campus resources, policies, and procedures.
- Address behavioral issues and enforce community standards in a fair and consistent manner.
- Provide guidance and support to Resident Assistants in their roles.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
- Conduct regular check-ins and provide feedback to Resident Assistants.
- Assist in the training and onboarding of new and returning Resident Assistants.
- Work collaboratively with the ADRL to support and develop the Resident Assistant team.
- Assist with room condition assessments prior to Move-In and after Move-Out each semester.
- Afford assistance with the opening and closing of the buildings.
- Report maintenance concerns within appropriate time.
- Complete and submit Incident Reports as well as, duty logs following each duty shift.
- Respond to situations needing attention.
- Observe residents who identify emotional, relationship, psychological, academic or social problems. Intervene appropriately or report as needed.
- Support Resident Assistants in addressing behavioral issues and enforcing community standards.
- Dedicate 10 hours per week to scheduled office hours and 5 evening/weekend hours during the academic semester. This becomes 15 hours per week of scheduled office hours during the summer months.
- Be available to residents during office hours for support, guidance, and conflict resolution.
- Maintain and update resident information, incident reports, and other administrative tasks.
- Coordinate and schedule meetings with residents, staff, and other relevant parties.
- Attend all in-services, meetings, and events as assigned.
- This will generally include weekly meeting with ADRL and weekly RA team meetings.
- Other duties and administrative assignments as assigned by the ADRL and Towers Office.
- Staff coverage/duty will be required during academic calendar break periods (holidays and extended time).
- Participate in the on-call rotation for after-hours emergencies and concerns.
- Be available and responsive to resident needs during designated on-call shifts.
- Collaborate with campus security, maintenance, and other relevant departments as necessary.
- Provide guidance to Resident Assistants during on-call situations.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student with at least two years of residential life experience.
- Maintain full-time enrollment and “good standing” with an accredited institution of higher education.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead and mentor a team effectively.
- Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Possess strong customer service skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population of students, staff, and faculty.
- Reliable, responsible, and able to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a residential setting.
- Maintain office availability and be available for a minimum of 10 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., during the Towers Office's operating hours.
- During the summer months of June, July, and August, this requirement increases to a minimum of 15 hours per week.
- Ability to move and lift up tp 35 pounds.
- Ability to live on site and serve on-call rotation.

Pay
The Senior Resident Assistant will work ten (10) hours each week for a single room accommodation within a 3-bedroom apartment (estimated worth $22,000 per year). If the Senior Resident Assistant resigns or is terminated from the position, they must vacate their room and move out of The Towers within three business days. If eligible to reside at The Towers, they may sign a new Housing License Agreement and relocate to the new housing assignment within three business days of the end of employment.
Schedule
The Senior Resident Assistant position at The Towers at City College of New York begins July 1 2026 and ends June 11, 2027. The work schedule is flexible but includes 10 hours per week for office hours and 5 evening/weekend hours during the academic semester, increasing to 15 hours per week during the summer months.
