Senior Relationship Banker

Identifies customers' needs through the bank’s retail sales process to provide proactive sales solutions via customer outreach for basic and complex needs. Specializes in branch customer experience across all retail and business sales interactions.

Responsibilities

• Develop new customer relationships and expand/retain existing ones by proactively identifying opportunities through portfolio management and the Bank’s sales process to meet personal sales and/or referral goals.
• Play a key role in:
  • Relationship Management (customer assessments, profiling for sales opportunities, account opening, lead-focused outbound calling).
  • Sales Process (profile/pre-call planning, outreach, appointment preparation, interaction, follow-up).
  • Risk Management (audit requirements, fraud prevention, Know Your Customer (KYC), and Customer Information Profile (CIP)).
• Follow up with clients based on needs identified during previous interactions to progress development plans.
• Develop understanding and knowledge of Business Banking products and services.
• Evaluate financing requests, recommend loan structures, and submit complete loan application packages.
• Research and provide industry knowledge (e.g., vertical IQ).
• Fluently explain processes, services, and products (e.g., interest expense, amortization schedules, consumer debt optimization, Mortgage/HELOC, Business Banking, TM, and Merchant Services products).
• Attend community networking events and develop relationships with Centers of Influence for referral opportunities.
• Act as liaison with business partners for retail product solutions (e.g., cross-selling retail products to business owners).
• Build relationships with non-branch business partners (e.g., business bankers, mortgage loan originators).
• Perform basic sales duties, including outbound prospecting calling activities to solicit new business banking relationships in some branches.
• Adhere to compliance/operational risk controls per Company or regulatory standards.
• Promote an inclusive environment that reflects the M&T Bank brand.
• Maintain internal control standards, including timely implementation of audit points and regulatory issues.
• Complete other related duties as assigned.
• Meet and maintain registration requirements under the Federal SAFE Act.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) and a minimum of 3 years of retail sales, call center, customer service, and/or telesales experience OR a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) and a minimum of 2 years of proactive sales experience.
• Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proven ability to deliver exceptional customer service.
• Well-organized with strong time management and prioritization skills.
• Demonstrated financial services product knowledge.
• Ability to communicate tactfully and diplomatically with internal and external customers.
• Proficient with internet and user-level technology.
• Sophisticated understanding of the four types of customer needs: transactional, savings, retirement, and protection (why, what, and how).
• Experience working with complex business customers.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate’s degree.
• Notary public license.
• Minimum of 3 years of financial services sales experience.
• Bilingual skills based on branch needs.

Pay

$24.87 – $41.45 hourly (USD). Compensation will be informed by the successful candidate’s knowledge, skills, and experience.
