Senior Relationship Banker
First Bank is seeking a Senior Relationship Banker to serve as the branch’s lead retail banking sales professional, responsible for acquiring, deepening, and retaining client relationships. This role drives branch growth through proactive sales conversations, outbound calling, referral generation, and financial needs assessments.
About the role
The Senior Relationship Banker is the highest-level banker in the retail branch, expected to demonstrate strong sales leadership, build trusted client relationships, uncover financial needs, and consistently contribute to branch production goals. This position partners closely with branch leadership and internal business partners to expand client relationships, increase household growth, and deliver a superior client experience.
Ideal candidates will have experience as a Personal Banker, Universal Banker, Relationship Banker, Branch Banker, Financial Services Representative, Consumer Banker, Credit Union Member Services Representative, or similar retail banking sales role. Successful candidates will have demonstrated experience in consultative sales, outbound calling, relationship management, cross-selling banking products, referral generation, and achieving sales goals.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the branch’s primary relationship-focused banker responsible for driving new business, deepening existing relationships, and supporting branch growth.
- Proactively acquire, retain, and expand consumer and small business client relationships through consultative sales and relationship management.
- Conduct financial needs conversations to identify client needs, uncover opportunities, and recommend appropriate banking solutions.
- Generate new business through outbound calling, appointment setting, lead follow-up, referral networking, community involvement, and proactive client outreach.
- Build and manage client relationships to increase household growth, deposit balances, product usage, and long-term client loyalty.
- Achieve individual and branch sales goals through needs-based selling, disciplined follow-up, and consistent execution of sales activities.
- Partner with branch leadership to support sales campaigns, client outreach initiatives, and overall branch production.
- Identify opportunities to refer clients to internal partners, including mortgage, consumer lending, business banking, treasury management, investments, and insurance.
- Recommend and sell consumer banking products and services based on client needs, including checking accounts, savings accounts, money market accounts, certificates of deposit, debit cards, credit cards, consumer loans, home equity products, and digital banking services.
- Identify opportunities for mortgage, investment, insurance, and other internal partner referrals.
- Use consultative sales techniques to match clients with appropriate financial solutions.
- Identify cross-sell opportunities during client interactions.
- Educate clients on products, services, digital tools, and relationship benefits that support their financial goals.
- Maintain strong knowledge of retail banking products, services, promotions, and competitive market conditions.
- Act as a senior sales resource within the branch by modeling effective client conversations, proactive follow-up, and relationship-building behaviors.
- Support less experienced branch team members by demonstrating strong sales practices, product knowledge, and customer engagement techniques.
- Collaborate with branch leadership to identify sales opportunities, improve client retention, and strengthen branch performance.
- Participate in sales meetings, pipeline reviews, calling campaigns, and branch growth initiatives.
- Promote a client-first sales culture focused on trust, needs-based recommendations, and long-term relationship development.
- Deliver a high-quality client experience during every interaction.
- Build trusted relationships through professional, proactive, and personalized financial conversations.
- Resolve client questions and concerns in a way that strengthens satisfaction, loyalty, and retention.
- Guide clients in the use of digital banking tools, self-service options, and other convenient banking solutions.
- Maintain regular follow-up with clients to ensure satisfaction and identify additional financial needs.
- Follow all bank policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and risk management expectations.
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure client interactions, account openings, referrals, and transactions are completed in accordance with bank standards.
- Process transactions accurately as needed while maintaining a primary focus on relationship development and sales growth.
- Protect client information and support branch compliance with applicable banking regulations.
- Contribute to overall branch performance through teamwork, accountability, and operational excellence.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 12 months of sales, retail banking, financial services, or related customer-facing experience.
- Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed sales goals through consultative sales, outbound calling, lead follow-up, referral generation, or business development activities.
- Strong customer service and relationship-building skills, including professional verbal and written communication.
- Ability to cross-sell banking products and identify referral opportunities based on client needs.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include Saturdays.
- Ability to obtain and maintain NMLS registration after hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Personal Banker, Universal Banker, Relationship Banker, Branch Banker, Financial Services Representative, Consumer Banker, or similar retail banking role.
- Previous cash-handling experience.
- Experience with consumer lending, home equity, mortgage, investment, or insurance referrals.
- Life License preferred.
- Working knowledge of retail banking products, deposit accounts, lending products, and digital banking solutions.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
Pay
The pay range for this role is $23.75 - $29.00 per hour. The range takes into account factors such as prior experience, skill set, training, and other internal business and organizational factors. First Bank generally does not hire at or near the top of the stated range. The range is driven by the geographic location of the anticipated hiring location.
