Senior Registrar - Intensive Care (ICU) - August 2026
About the role
The Alfred Department of Intensive Care is seeking qualified candidates for Senior Registrar positions. The department is part of a state-of-the-art 65-bedded unit that treats over 3000 patients annually. It offers specialized services including heart and lung transplantation, short- and long-term mechanical cardiac devices, ECMO, burns treatment, and hyperbaric medicine.
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical care to critically ill patients under the supervision of senior staff.
- Participate in ongoing education and training programs to enhance professional development.
- Contribute to the educational activities of the department, including journal club sessions, simulation training, and bronchoscopy training.
- Gain formal certification in ECMO and artificial heart procedures.
- Develop leadership and mentoring skills through specific training programs.
- Prepare for and pass the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) examination with additional consultant-led training.
Requirements
- Current registration with the Medical Council of Australia.
- At least 2 years of post-registration experience in intensive care or related fields.
- Passing score on the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) examination.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree in medicine or equivalent.
- Experience in critical care settings.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
