About the role

The Senior HVAC/R Technician serves as a lead technical expert in the field, responsible for advanced diagnostics, complex repairs, and mentoring junior technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems including walk-in coolers/freezers, rack systems, ice machines, rooftop units, split systems, and ventilation systems.
  • Lead installations, system replacements, and equipment commissioning.
  • Identify root causes of recurring issues and recommend long-term solutions.
  • Mentor and support Junior Technicians and apprentices in the field.
  • Ensure preventative maintenance is completed thoroughly and to company standards.
  • Communicate clearly with customers regarding system conditions, repair options, and preventative maintenance strategies.
  • Accurately document service calls, parts usage, labor hours, and detailed repair notes.
  • Manage truck inventory and maintain proper tools and materials.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and respond to emergency service calls as needed.
  • Engage in ongoing technical training to remain current with manufacturer updates and industry advancements.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of commercial HVAC and refrigeration service experience.
  • EPA Universal Certification required.
  • Manufacturer certifications and CFESA credentials are a plus.
  • Strong expertise in refrigeration systems, electrical diagnostics, airflow systems, and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Experience with rack systems and commercial kitchen equipment preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and blueprints.
  • Valid drivers license with a clean driving record required.
  • Strong problem-solving and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
  • Ability to lift up to 50+ lbs. and work in varying indoor / outdoor conditions.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work from heights, and crawl in tight quarters.
  • Own industry standard hand tools.
  • Willingness to participate in on-call rotation.
