About the role
The Senior HVAC/R Technician serves as a lead technical expert in the field, responsible for advanced diagnostics, complex repairs, and mentoring junior technicians.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems including walk-in coolers/freezers, rack systems, ice machines, rooftop units, split systems, and ventilation systems.
- Lead installations, system replacements, and equipment commissioning.
- Identify root causes of recurring issues and recommend long-term solutions.
- Mentor and support Junior Technicians and apprentices in the field.
- Ensure preventative maintenance is completed thoroughly and to company standards.
- Communicate clearly with customers regarding system conditions, repair options, and preventative maintenance strategies.
- Accurately document service calls, parts usage, labor hours, and detailed repair notes.
- Manage truck inventory and maintain proper tools and materials.
- Participate in on-call rotation and respond to emergency service calls as needed.
- Engage in ongoing technical training to remain current with manufacturer updates and industry advancements.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of commercial HVAC and refrigeration service experience.
- EPA Universal Certification required.
- Manufacturer certifications and CFESA credentials are a plus.
- Strong expertise in refrigeration systems, electrical diagnostics, airflow systems, and mechanical troubleshooting.
- Experience with rack systems and commercial kitchen equipment preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and blueprints.
- Valid drivers license with a clean driving record required.
- Strong problem-solving and leadership skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
- Ability to lift up to 50+ lbs. and work in varying indoor / outdoor conditions.
- Ability to climb ladders, work from heights, and crawl in tight quarters.
- Own industry standard hand tools.
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotation.
