Senior Recreation Leader (Part Time)
About the role
The City of Westminster seeks a Senior Recreation Leader to assist in managing recreation programs, activities, and facilities. This position oversees and implements various programs and activities across parks, playgrounds, and family resource centers.
Responsibilities
- Plans, organizes, implements, leads, and assists in one or more recreation programs, activities, and/or systems at one or multiple sites.
- Assists in ordering supplies and materials for projects and activities; reserves needed buildings and equipment.
- Assists in planning and conducting community events, general programs, and facility rentals; sets up and takes down tables, chairs, and equipment for classes, activities, events, and meetings.
- Collections and reports program fees and ensures proper documentation and handling.
- Provides training, orientation, and guidance to assigned staff; provides input to performance evaluations; assists with hiring employees and participates in disciplinary actions.
- Maintains facility use; opens, closes, and secures buildings for events, and assists in the supervision and preparation of the facility and amenities for patron use.
- Acts as a City representative, in person and over the phone, to patrons and the general public concerning questions, problems, concerns, and activities in the provision of recreation program operations, activities, and services.
- Documents all incidents involving injury, behavioral problems, and/or any unusual events; communicates as appropriate to supervisor, parents, and others.
- Ensures the safety of the public and staff at all times by inspecting, patrolling, monitoring, and instructing on the safe use of program facilities, equipment, and supplies; maintains a safe, clean, and tidy environment; reports unsafe conditions or illegal activities.
- Administers basic first aid and adult and/or child cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as necessary.
Requirements
- Knowledge of basic principles of employee and volunteer supervision and training.
- Knowledge of principles, practices, and service delivery needs related to the program area(s) to which assigned.
- Knowledge of procedures for planning, implementing, and maintaining a variety of recreation and leisure activities and programs.
- Knowledge of recreational, cultural, age-specific, and social needs of the community.
- Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, regulatory codes, ordinances, and procedures relevant to the program area and facilities to which assigned.
- Knowledge of recreation site management.
- Knowledge of safety principles and practices, including basic first aid and adult and/or child cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) methods.
- Knowledge of applicable safety precautions and procedures related to the program area(s) and facilities to which assigned.
- Knowledge of basic public relations techniques.
- Knowledge of business arithmetic and statistical techniques.
- Knowledge of modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment and applications.
- Ability to plan, oversee, implement, and coordinate assigned recreation program operations and activities, as well as staff, contractors, and volunteers.
- Ability to plan and prepare recreation activities, reports, and other related program materials.
- Ability to understand the organization and operation of recreation programs and facilities necessary to assume assigned responsibilities.
- Ability to interpret, apply, explain, and ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
- Ability to remain flexible and adapt as job responsibilities change.
- Ability to work independently while supervising facilities and user groups.
- Ability to understand, interpret, and apply facility use policies and procedures.
- Ability to provide courteous assistance to facility patrons.
- Ability to lift and move tables and chairs and arrange facilities for community events and/or meetings.
- Ability to handle rescues, medical emergencies and injuries in a calm and effective manner, including providing basic first aid and adult and/or child cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
- Ability to maintain facilities and equipment in a clean, safe, and secure manner.
- Ability to operate modern office equipment including computer equipment and software programs.
- Ability to maintain accurate logs, records, and basic written records of work performed.
- Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner; organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines.
- Ability to use English effectively to communicate in person, over the telephone, and in writing.
- Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Qualifications
- Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade and two (2) years of experience related to the recreation program to which assigned.
- Valid California class C driver's license.
- Must obtain American Red Cross First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate for infant, child, and adult within three (3) months of hire.

Benefits
Part-time employees participate in the Public Agency Retirement Services (PARS) in lieu of Social Security. Employees contribute 6.0% of their salary toward the plan and the City contributes 1.5% of salary as well.
Part-time employees are entitled to Paid Sick Leave in accordance with the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement "Healthy Workplaces/Healthy Families Act of 2014 Paid Sick Leave."
Pay
$25.00 - $30.00 per hour based on experience.
Schedule
Monday- Friday 10 am- 4 pm and/or weekends during the summer.
