Senior Recreation Leader I - Tiny Tots Program
About the role
This recruitment is open until the needs of the department are met and may close without prior notice. Responsibilities
- Assists with the supervision of Community Services facilities when full-time staff are not available.
- Supervises and manages a variety of children’s programming, including the Tiny Tots, Camp Tiny Tots, and after school programs.
- Collaborate with staff to create and develop curriculum-based activities, classroom management plans and behavior management strategies while considering developmental needs and interests of children.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with children and parents.
- Conducts and logs monthly safety and emergency preparedness drills.
- Prepares and maintains documents, reports, correspondence, monthly activity schedules, timelines, and any other written communication as needed by the supervisor.
- Supervises and trains staff and volunteers.
- Enrolls participants in various recreation programs.
- Makes recommendations regarding the acquisition of equipment and supplies.
- Attends staff meetings, trainings, and workshops.
- Organizes and maintains accurate records.
- Adheres to City and departmental policies and procedures.
- Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
- Knowledge of: Methods, practices, and equipment used in maintaining an effective early childhood program; CPR, AED, and First Aid safety practices; recreation class registration and facility reservation software; English grammar, punctuation, spelling, and composition.
- Ability to: Deliver oral and written reports to supervisor and others. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, community groups, staff, and other agencies. Exercise good judgment, courtesy, and tact with staff and the public. Assign tasks to employees when needed. Utilize Windows based software.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and available to work some nights, weekends, and holidays.
Qualifications
- Two years of related recreation experience, including one year of employee supervisory experience, is preferred.
- Graduation from high school or equivalent and completed or enrolled in at least 6-12 units of early childhood education college level coursework is preferred.
- Degree in Recreation, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field is preferred.
Skills

Benefits
The City of La Mirada offers a competitive compensation and benefits package based on the adopted Salary and Benefits Resolution. Appointments are normally made at the first step of a five step salary range. One year of City service is required to advance to the next pay step in the salary range. Position requires availability to work varying shifts on days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Candidates with open availability will be given preference when hiring. Applicants selected to be hired are required to attend orientation and/or training on the following dates. Attendance is mandatory. Orientation/Training Dates For New Hires Human Resources New Hire Orientation - Week of May 25, 2026. Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Candidates will be required to pass a City administered pre-employment requirements which include live scan fingerprinting and a medical examination as part of the Selection Process. Candidates who do not pass any portion of the above processes will be disqualified and removed from proceeding in the selection process.
