About the role

This recruitment is to fill two (2) part-time vacancies in the Recreation & Community Services Department. The recruitment is open on a continuous basis and may close at any time with or without prior notice. Interested individuals are encouraged to apply immediately.

Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision from the Program Supervisor, the Senior Recreation Leader may be assigned to the Arts and Recreation Center (ARC), Barnes Park, Before and After School Program (BASIC), Community Center, Senior Center, Teen Center & Skate Park, or Family Service Center and will assist in the coordination of recreation programs for youth, special events and excursions, and other recreational activities;
  • Provide supervision to Recreation Leaders, facility attendants and other program personnel and volunteers;
  • Utilize great customer service skills to carry out various assignments including but not limited to: active involvement with the youth; assist with planning of monthly calendars and themed programs; oversee facility booking and/or program registration including cash handling, deposit, and reconciliation procedures;
  • Prepare and distribute promotional material concerning new or ongoing programs and events;
  • Perform public relations work within the community and with community groups pertaining to specific programs, events, and special activities;
  • Maintain activity and progress records;
  • Attend staff meetings and may attend regional workshops and conferences;
  • Respond to public inquiries and requests;
  • Investigate complaints and recommend corrective action as necessary to supervisor;
  • Assist with set-up and breakdown of facility equipment;
  • Perform some custodial duties in maintenance of recreational activities;
  • May be required to drive to different sites and locations;
  • Support the relationship between the City of Baldwin Park and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff;
  • Maintain confidentiality of work-related issues and City information;
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • Education equivalent to High School Diploma or GED equivalent;
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of submitting application;
  • Must possess a valid California Driver's License;
  • Must possess three (3) years of progressive experience facilitating group activities and/or programs for youth in a recreational setting.

  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work;
  • Ability to provide program and event information to the public;
  • Ability to assist with support activities and operations;
  • Ability to enforce rules and regulations to assure the safety and welfare of participants;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Publisher;
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish (highly desirable).

Benefits

This is a non-benefited, at-will part-time position; employee shall not work in excess of 960 total hours per fiscal year. Hourly compensation will depend on qualifications, prior experience and skills.

Pay

Hourly salary range: $20.45 - $21.29

Schedule

This is a non-benefited, at-will, part-time position with working hours to be assigned at the discretion of the Recreation & Community Services Department. Candidates must be able to work all assigned shifts, which may include mornings, afternoons, evening shifts, and/or occasional weekends.
