Responsibilities

  • Operate complex equipment and tools to test products and verify that they meet defined quality and performance requirements.
  • Communicate quality requirements, findings, and requests across Sales, Engineering, Assembly, Machining, Shipping, Maintenance, and other departments to ensure alignment on standards and expectations.
  • Work closely with production teams to meet product standards, quality objectives, and productivity goals while minimizing defects and rework.
  • Participate in the calibration system by documenting out-of-tolerance conditions and ensuring timely calibration of test and measurement equipment.
  • Support and administer the plant non-conforming material process, including identification, documentation, and disposition of nonconforming products.
  • Inspect and verify critical components, first articles, and finished assemblies, ensuring all required inspection records and documentation are complete and accurate.
  • Maintain quality records in accordance with ISO 9001 standards, ensuring traceability and accuracy of inspection and test data.
  • Serve as the plant resource for test and measurement devices and inspection techniques, providing guidance on proper selection and use.
  • Perform receiving inspections on incoming materials and components, issuing Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) when necessary.
  • Handle duties that require substantial variety, judgment, and technical complexity in evaluating product quality and process performance.
  • Act as a resource to others in resolving quality-related issues and problems, supporting timely and effective resolution.
  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to Quality Technicians and production personnel on quality standards, inspection methods, GD&T interpretation, and problem-solving techniques.
  • Employ Continuous System Improvement (CSI) tools and techniques to identify, recommend, and help implement improvements to inspection and production processes.
  • Ensure rejected materials are properly documented, segregated, and accounted for within the inventory management system.
  • Make material accept/reject decisions based on inspection results and specifications, and disqualify test and measurement devices when appropriate.
  • Review test equipment certifications and verify their suitability for specific applications and tolerances.
  • Support internal and external quality audits and assist in implementing corrective actions to address findings.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills when handling internal reports, working with executives and customers, managing deadlines, and using ERP and quality-related systems.
  • During technical evaluations, clearly explain how to measure, cut, and adjust dimensions on GD&T drawings, including working with tight tolerances such as 13.8 ± 0.005 inches.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing quality experience, with at least 5+ years of quality technician experience in a production or CNC environment.
  • Direct experience working in a CNC manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practical application of ISO 9001 standards and requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of quality systems, measurement methods, and statistical techniques.
  • Proficiency with precision measurement equipment, including calipers, micrometers, indicators, height gauges, and other hand inspection tools.
  • Experience performing quality inspection activities, including final inspection and receiving inspection.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and production specifications, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs).
  • Familiarity with CMM programming, with the ability to work with systems such as Mitutoyo CMM and PC-DMIS (programming experience preferred but not required).
  • Hands-on experience with GD&T in a manufacturing setting, including working with tight tolerances such as 0.005 inches.
  • Demonstrated use of Continuous System Improvement (CSI) tools and techniques to improve processes and reduce defects.
  • Experience utilizing quality auditing tools, methodologies, and root-cause problem-solving techniques.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and time-management skills to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, including mentoring, coaching, and training employees in quality practices.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based manufacturing environment and collaborate across departments.
