About the role

We're seeking an experienced, automation-focused Senior Quality Assurance Engineer to join our North American Sports product team, which builds insightful analytics and Recruit products for American Football to help high‑level coaches and analysts make faster, data‑driven decisions on player performance and talent acquisition. As the testing expert within a cross‑functional squad, you'll own quality end‑to‑end, drive quality discussions, and advocate for reliability and performance at every stage of delivery. While local candidates in Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska are prioritized, we’re open to remote applicants residing in any of the listed states (AL, AZ, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, MA, MI, MN, MO, NE, NH, NC, NV, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WI, WY).

Responsibilities

  • Lead quality initiatives: build risk‑based testing strategies tailored to the squad’s architecture, drive quality discussions in scrum ceremonies, challenge defect priorities, and continuously improve practices.
  • Test across the stack: design and execute tests spanning front‑end UI, APIs, backend services, and data pipelines — validating transformations, service outputs, and complex logic at scale.
  • Automate with intent: make informed decisions about what, when, and how to automate; use Playwright and scripting to build reliable, maintainable automated checks that keep pace with development.
  • Mentor and grow others: use technical depth and quality instincts to coach teammates, raise the bar for quality standards across the team, and influence how the squad thinks about quality.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally: partner closely with Engineering, Product, and Design, contribute to hiring, and invest in your own professional development.

Requirements

  • Quality focus: see the big picture and use it to drive improvements in both quality and velocity.
  • Technical depth: 4+ years of software testing experience with hands‑on expertise across the full stack — API testing, backend and data‑heavy systems, front‑end validation — plus proficiency in automation frameworks like Playwright and languages like Python or TypeScript.
  • Track record of leadership: owned quality for a squad, led testing initiatives end‑to‑end, defined success criteria, and designed approaches that measurably reduce risk in production.
  • Investigative rigour: dig to root causes of complex problems, back findings with data, and measure outcomes.
  • User focus: think critically about the user experience and let that understanding shape your testing approach.
  • AI‑powered working: actively use AI tools in day‑to‑day workflow — for test case creation, failure diagnosis, documentation, and beyond — and look for new ways to apply them to raise the team's efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Performance testing exposure: familiarity with load, stress, and scalability testing concepts and tools (e.g., JMeter) for validating API and backend performance.
  • Sports knowledge: passion for or experience in Basketball, American Football, or Ice Hockey — whether as an athlete, coach, or fan — and an appreciation for the unique challenges of sports technology.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience: a bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.

Skills

  • Playwright
  • Python & TypeScript
  • API testing
  • Backend and data‑heavy systems validation
  • Front‑end UI validation
  • JMeter (performance testing)
  • AI‑assisted testing tools

Benefits

  • Champion work‑life harmony: flexible vacation time, company‑wide holidays, timeout (meeting‑free) days, remote work options, and more.
  • Guarantee autonomy: open, honest culture; you’ll own your work and have the agency to try new ideas.
  • Encourage career growth: resources and opportunities for ongoing professional development.
  • Provide an environment to help you succeed: invested office spaces and remote‑work tech stack/hardware to do your best work.
  • Support mental and physical health: Employee Assistance Program, employee resource groups, and fitness partner Peerfit.
  • Cover your medical insurance: multiple plans to choose from, including vision, dental, fertility healthcare, and family‑forming benefits.
  • Contribute to your 401(K): company match up to 4% of your own contribution.
