Opportunity for Impact

Alloy's QA team is small and sits at the leading edge of using AI and automation to help us ship higher-quality code, faster. This is a hands-on, technical role: you'll design browser and API automation across the patient experience, plus the data pipelines and integrations underneath it. Much of what we use today is less than two years old, and we expect it to keep changing as better tools arrive — you'll need to be comfortable evolving with it. This is an individual contributor role with real ownership over your work, even though QA is necessarily part of a broader team. The right person learns fast, solves problems independently, works well with others, and is comfortable in a rapidly changing environment. Our organization prides itself on empathy — toward each other and toward our customers — and because your work directly touches the experience of women navigating perimenopause and menopause, the ability to empathize with that journey and put the customer experience first matters as much as technical skill. We're not hiring for someone to run our current playbook — we're hiring outside experience that changes it. You should expect to question existing practice, make the case for a different way of testing something, and have real input into how our QA function matures over time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain automated coverage across signup, intake, checkout, and subscription management on both web and mobile, plus the tools our physicians use
  • Test the APIs, data pipelines, and third-party integrations the product depends on
  • Write real code — fixtures, harnesses, and internal tooling the engineering team relies on
  • Work on evaluation for our AI features, where output isn't repeatable and conventional assertions don't get you far
  • Get involved early, while changes are still being designed — use your knowledge of the current customer experience to help scope tests and flag risks before code exists
  • Triage what you find: separate the interesting edge case from what's hitting real patients right now, and escalate accordingly
  • Bring new tooling and approaches to the team, and make the case for them
  • Dig into the data behind a bug — write PostgreSQL queries to establish what actually happened, to whom, and how often
  • Own your tickets end to end — test plan, execution, defect write-up, and verification — with real autonomy over how you get there
  • Periodically assess the health of our automation coverage — flag flaky tests, coverage gaps, and maintenance cost, and make the case for what to fix, keep, or retire
  • Turn that assessment into a forward-looking proposal for where the suite invests next and in what order, making the coverage-vs-determinism-vs-speed tradeoff an explicit, deliberate call rather than an ambient judgment

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years in software or test engineering, with strong automation experience
  • Driven by curiosity and a meticulous eye for detail — you proactively seek out untracked failures and have the persistence to track down intermittent issues to their source
  • Pragmatic about testing strategy: you use automation when it adds clear value and manual exploration when it doesn't, without a fixed preference for either
  • Strong database skills, ideally including PostgreSQL proficiency, to independently analyze data and determine user impact during bug investigations
  • Sound judgment about escalation — you can tell a production-wide problem from a one-off, and raise it with the urgency it deserves, no more and no less
  • Steady under a tight deadline: methodical and level-headed when a release is on the line, and willing to advocate for a delay if a feature needs more work
  • Comfortable reading and writing code, including code you didn't write
  • Hands-on use of AI tooling in your own work, enough to know where it helps and where it doesn't
  • Strong experience with a testing framework such as Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium — we use Playwright today, but we're as interested in the perspective you bring from other tools as in direct Playwright experience, since our internal infrastructure keeps evolving
  • A clear communicator who works well with engineers, product, and clinical stakeholders, and is comfortable at a small company where priorities can shift quickly

Nice to Have

  • Experience in healthcare or another regulated environment
  • Experience evaluating LLM output
  • Testing experience
  • Observability tooling experience
