Senior QA Engineer

Cloaked · New York, NY · 1 wk ago
HybridEngineering$150k–$175k/yrFull-time

Cloaked is a consumer privacy and identity platform on a mission to give people back control of their personal data. We let anyone generate unlimited identities—masked emails, phone numbers, and payment cards—scrub their information off data-broker sites, and shield themselves from spam, scams, and breaches, all from one app. Backed by a $375M Series B, we've protected 10M+ identities and removed 1B+ records from the data brokers who profit off personal information. Now we're building the AI-native future of privacy: autonomous agents that monitor, manage, and defend your digital footprint for you.

About the role

We're hiring a Senior QA Engineer to own quality across Cloaked's web, mobile, and API products. You'll manually test new features, build and maintain automated test suites for existing features, collaborate with the QA team to develop new test strategy, and work independently across frameworks, CI/CD, and coverage gaps—hands-on every day, owning quality signal rather than just test execution.

Responsibilities

  • Own quality across Cloaked's web, mobile, and API surfaces—coverage, strategy, and signal
  • Work within a variety of feature teams to ensure output is delivered at high quality without sacrificing team velocity
  • Design test plans for new features, including hands-on exploratory testing where appropriate
  • Build and improve test automation frameworks and utilities alongside other QA Engineers and the QA Manager
  • Integrate and maintain automated tests within CI/CD pipelines to support continuous delivery
  • Analyze test results, identify flaky tests, and improve overall suite reliability while staying truthful about what the results actually indicate
  • Use AI-assisted workflows to accelerate test generation, coverage analysis, and maintenance, and help the team determine what's worth automating
  • Collaborate with developers and product managers to understand features and how best to test them
  • Contribute to test plans and living QA/Product documentation
  • Participate in code reviews for test automation code and provide constructive feedback
  • Flag gaps in coverage and propose solutions to improve quality signal

Requirements

  • 7+ years in QA or QA automation, with hands-on experience building and maintaining manual and automated test suites
  • Solid testing fundamentals: test design, test planning, defect management
  • Experience testing across web, mobile, and API
  • Demonstrated use of AI to enhance your workflow—generating and maintaining tests, writing docs, reducing repetitive manual work
  • Proficiency with Playwright, Selenium, and Appium
  • Strong scripting/programming skills in languages commonly used in test automation (Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java)
  • Ability to write clean, well-structured, maintainable test code

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with Datadog, PostHog, Jira, and Google Workspace
  • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated tests (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CircleCI)
  • Hands-on API testing experience (Postman or equivalent)
  • Exposure to security, privacy, or identity products
  • Familiarity with performance or load testing tools (k6, Locust, JMeter)
  • Experience with visual regression testing
  • Experience testing with device farms, local or remote via services like SauceLabs or LambdaTest
  • Background working in a startup or high-growth environment
  • Experience setting test strategy or mentoring other QA engineers

Skills

  • Self-starter who takes ownership and proactively looks for ways to improve things
  • Strong communication skills, ability to manage expectations upwards and across teams
  • Comfort with chaos—priorities shift, context is incomplete, and you adapt to find the correct solution
  • Pragmatic bias toward shipping and iterating over perfecting in isolation
  • Bias toward objective truth in automation results, not just "running green"
  • Curiosity about how things work under the hood and a desire to understand the product deeply
  • Willingness to explore new tooling—AI is changing how QA works, and we value those chasing that evolution
  • Collaborative mindset—you see QA as a partner to engineering, not a bottleneck
  • Genuine care about quality as a product differentiator

Benefits

  • Above-market rate pay and equity based on commercially available data
  • 401K and top-tier Health, Dental, and Vision benefits
  • Flexible work arrangements with the ability to work remotely as needed
  • Home office stipend and a new company laptop (plus other tech depending on the role)
  • Competitive PTO with a minimum vacation requirement per quarter to prevent burnout
  • Monthly health stipend for physical, mental, or emotional care (e.g., gym memberships, meditation apps, personal training)
  • Late-night meal stipend for when work interferes with meal prep
  • Unlimited professional development fund for career growth, conferences, and industry events

Pay

Compensation range: $150K - $175K (combination of salary, bonus, and equity).
