About the role
The Senior Psychiatric Technician (SPT) position in Program V at Patton State Hospital is under the direct supervision of the Unit Supervisor (Safety).
Responsibilities
- Supervise the work and development of the level of care staff in a forensic unit.
- Provide basic level of general and psychiatric nursing care to mentally ill patients.
- Coordinate and oversee direct patient care activities.
- Provide guidance and direction to unit staff.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to support patient treatment and hospital operations.
- Demonstrate excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
- May be assigned especially difficult or complex duties where the only supervision exercised is over patients/clients, including directing, coordinating, and monitoring patient participation in therapeutic programs and activities to promote treatment goals and maintain a safe and secure environment.
Requirements
- Pass a Drug Screening prior to employment.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a state-approved training program in psychiatric nursing or related field.
- Current California Driver’s License.
- Current CPR certification.
- Ability to pass a background check.

- Sound judgment and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced forensic treatment setting.
Pay
- $6,638.00 - $7,730.00 S
- $6,927.00 - $8,320.00 T
- $7,237.00 - $8,733.00 U
