About the role

The Behavioral Health Bureau of Monterey County Health Department seeks experienced Senior Psychiatric Social Workers (SR. PSW) to join the ACCESS, ASOC, CSOC, and Quality Division teams. These roles serve individuals of all ages with mental health and substance use challenges, focusing on community-based, culturally relevant, and evidence-based practices.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a subject matter resource to other professional staff and mental health staff.
  • Interviews clients and their relatives to compile extensive social case histories.
  • Refers clients to appropriate agencies and collaborates with other agencies like schools, welfare, and law enforcement.
  • Provides intensive case management, individual and group therapy, and assigns, reviews, and coordinates staff work.
  • Works as part of a psychiatric team and participates in diagnostic and evaluative client conferences.
  • Performs case management and therapeutic interventions.
  • Maintains and develops cooperative work relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Writes clear and concise reports and communicates with clients and families.
  • Manages and supervises staff, ensuring timely completion of clinical documentation and adherence to standards.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of psychiatric social work principles, procedures, and techniques.
  • Experience in treating clients with mental and emotional disturbances.
  • Ability to communicate with clients and families in English and Spanish.
  • Knowledge of mental health education and public health practices.
  • Skills in analyzing data, developing new procedures, and working cooperatively with diverse groups.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in providing treatment, counseling, or case management services in a mental health setting.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency in writing and oral communication.
  • Experience in managing and supervising staff.
