About the role

The Sr. Proposal Development Specialist provides pre-award support to faculty and postdoctoral fellows in all aspects of proposal development, including budget development, form completion, and submission. A major focus of the position is the preparation of proposal submissions for federal and non-federal funding mechanisms, including complex applications such as program projects and training grants. This position supports the researchers of a designated cluster, which includes several departments within Main Campus and the Medical Center.

The Sr. Proposal Development Specialist is responsible for pre-award activities, such as identifying, organizing, facilitating, and submitting the development of new, resubmission, and competitive renewal research proposals for all grants and collaborative opportunities with other institutions. This position also provides leadership, training, and oversight of the proposal specialist in their cluster.

The Sr. Proposal Development Specialist reports directly to their assigned Associate Director and works closely with other staff members in their cluster, across proposal specialist roles within JORA, and other collaborating offices to ensure that proposals are complete, accurate, and in compliance with sponsor and institutional regulations, policies, and guidelines.

This position has been designated as Remote. Work mode designations are regularly reviewed and may change to meet the evolving needs of the University.

Responsibilities

  • Provide pre-award support for proposal development, including budget development, form completion, and submission.
  • Prepare and submit proposals for federal and non-federal funding mechanisms, including complex applications such as program projects and training grants.
  • Support researchers in developing new, resubmission, and competitive renewal research proposals for grants and collaborative opportunities.
  • Lead, train, and oversee proposal specialists within the assigned cluster.
  • Ensure proposals are complete, accurate, and compliant with sponsor and institutional regulations, policies, and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with staff across clusters and offices to facilitate proposal submissions.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in academic research administration.
  • Expertise in electronic grants submissions through Grants.gov and other electronic portals.
  • Knowledge of a variety of sponsored research funding mechanisms, including federal agencies (NIH, NSF, DOD, etc.), non-federal government agencies, international entities, industry, and foundations.
  • Expertise with federal funding guidelines (2 CFR 200, FAR, etc.).
  • Proficiency with financial systems, accounting, and cost accounting standards as they pertain to grants and contracts management.
  • Budgeting experience in Excel.
  • Proficient with software products including Excel, Adobe Professional, and DocuSign.
  • Flexible and adaptable to accommodate ongoing changes to internal and external policies.
  • Capacity to establish clear priorities and multi-task in a high-volume setting.
  • Ability to work quickly and effectively under pressure.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced academic setting.
  • Skill in fostering a collaborative, customer-oriented working environment with multiple customers and competing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Research Administration (CRA), Certified PreAward Research Administration (CPRA), and/or Certified Financial Research Administration (CFRA).
  • Familiarity with Workday.

Pay

The projected salary range for this position is $54,616.00 - $100,493.33. Compensation is determined by individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, certifications, the University’s business needs, and external factors.
