About the role
The Weitz Company is seeking a Senior Project Superintendent to lead commercial construction projects in West Palm Beach, FL. This role involves managing field operations safely, efficiently, and profitably while maintaining strong client relationships.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary leader of subcontractors and field forces on a job site
- Maintain project safety in accordance with the Company’s Safety Policy
- Develop and update the project schedule, resource allocation, and work processes
- Prepare two-week look ahead schedules
- Schedule and lead pull planning sessions with trade partners
- Implement lean construction practices into the management of the work; including but not limited to daily stand-up meetings and weekly work plans
- Oversee daily construction activities ensuring work meets quality standards, project timelines, and budgets
- Coordinate with subcontractors, manage their performance, and ensure they adhere to contract requirements and safety protocols
- Conduct regular site inspections, identify and address quality issues, and ensure work meets project specifications
- Identify and resolve issues promptly and effectively to maintain project momentum and project schedule
- Update project schedules utilizing computerized scheduling software
- Aid in the buyout and selection of major subcontractors
- Oversee all aspects of project execution, including constructions schedules, budgets, and quality control
- Supervise and coordinate all field personnel, subcontractors, and construction activities
- Implement and enforce strict safety protocols to ensure a safe work environment for all employees and subcontractors
- Maintain strong, professional, respectful, and consistent communication with project managers, clients, and other stakeholders
- Coordinate the work of the subcontractors’ field forces
- Communicate effectively both externally with owners, designers, and engineers as well as internally with the project team
- Maintain accurate cost reports
- Ensure all required paperwork is completed, accurate, and timely
- Adhere to all company policies, standards, and procedures
- Provide opportunities to help the team develop, learn, and grow
- Foster positive relationships with both internal and external parties
Requirements
- Experience: 10+ years of Project Superintendent experience required
- Commercial construction experience working for a general contractor (GC) required
- Experience in education, municipal, hospitality, and/or senior living construction required
- Experience leading a team with a focus on coaching, development, and mentorship
- Experience with safety, preconstruction, staff development/retention, and customer advocacy
Skills
- Ability to read/interpret construction documents
- Knowledge of construction methods and materials
- Excellent project organizational skills
- Impressive leadership skills with the desire to teach, mentor, and develop a team
- Business acumen and relationship building skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication across all levels of the organization
- Proficient in basic computer software including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Primavera P6, and Outlook
- Systems experience with Bluebeam and Procore is a plus
