Senior Project Manager - Highway/Traffic
Core Responsibilities
- Serve as Project Manager and Project Principal on transportation engineering projects for local, county, state, and federal agencies.
- Lead multidisciplinary project teams in the planning, design, permitting, and construction support phases of transportation projects.
- Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, staffing requirements, and overall project performance to ensure successful delivery.
- Oversee the preparation of design plans, specifications, cost estimates, technical reports, and supporting documentation utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation.
- Provide quality control reviews and ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal design standards and agency requirements.
- Cook up with clients, regulatory agencies, utility companies, and other project stakeholders throughout project development.
- Serve as the primary client contact and maintain strong relationships with existing clients while identifying opportunities for additional services.
- Lead proposal development efforts, including preparation of technical approaches, scope of services, fee estimates, and project schedules.
- Support business development initiatives through networking, industry involvement, client engagement, and participation in professional organizations.
- Mentor, supervise, and develop engineering staff by assigning work, providing technical guidance, and supporting professional growth.
- Collaborate with department leadership on strategic planning, resource allocation, and operational improvements.
- Participate in project interviews, presentations, and marketing efforts to secure new business opportunities.
- Provide construction support services, including responses to contractor inquiries, shop drawing reviews, and field coordination as required.
- Monitor project financial performance and implement corrective actions when necessary to maintain project profitability.
- Stay current with evolving transportation design standards, regulations, and industry best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License required; New Jersey PE preferred or ability to obtain through reciprocity.
- 12+ years of progressive transportation engineering experience with increasing project management responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience managing roadway, highway, traffic, intersection, and transportation improvement projects.
- Strong knowledge of NJDOT, PennDOT, county, and municipal transportation design standards and procedures.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation design software.
- Proven experience managing project budgets, schedules, staffing, and client relationships.
- Experience leading proposal efforts and supporting business development activities.
- Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring and managing engineering staff.
- Knowledge of traffic engineering principles and transportation planning concepts preferred.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Compensation
The projected compensation range for this position is $120,000 to $185,000. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as experience, education and skill set.
