About the role

The Vertex Companies, LLC (VERTEX) is seeking a Senior Project Manager to manage our regional remediation and regulatory compliance group in the New Jersey and New York City markets. The ideal candidate will have strong engineering, technical, and business development skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work Product Creation, Project Management, Coordination with Team Members
  • Manage projects to meet milestones, budget, deadlines, regulatory requirements, client needs, or other performance indicators.
  • Manage all aspects of the project life cycle: planning, scope definition, budgeting, coordination, execution, and delivery.
  • Participate in Account Management and Business Development program to engage with clients and procure work.
  • Manage project staff members and subcontractors.
  • Prepare NJDEP, NYSDEC, and NYCDEP project deliverables.
  • Engineer and implement the in-situ remediation of impacted soil and groundwater, as well as vapor mitigation systems.
  • Oversee and provide technical review of investigation and remediation projects in the region.
  • Prepare and review cost proposals and technical assessment reports including ensuring accurate data/summary tables and/or figures.
  • Coverage of work activities for multiple project functions to ensure satisfying delivery.
  • Lead coordination with other team members as requested or assigned, provide technical work product review, and monitor own progress on assigned tasks or projects, ensuring work product produced by self is consistently high quality.
  • Support assigned manager in meeting or exceeding the defined annual budget for the entire practice area (including proactive creation of work product to meet or exceed defined utilization targets, oversight of execution of profitable technical assignments, and communication with clients as assigned or requested).
  • Coordinate with other team members as requested or assigned, provide technical work product review, and monitor own progress on assigned tasks or projects, ensuring work product produced by self is consistently high quality.
  • Support assigned manager in monitoring of all relevant data related to own performance such as individual utilization rate vs target, client deadlines, accurate and timely timesheet data, etc.
  • Conduct own behavior in a “lead by example” manner, with emphasis on positivity.
  • Manage own tasks within assigned projects in support of meeting defined objectives and key results (OKRs).
  • Travel, as necessary to support client, employee, and leadership needs.
  • Provide feedback to project team leader in a manner that assists with rapid identification and escalation of any client, or technical or operational challenges.

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 8 years of related experience, a Master's degree and 6 years of related experience, or 11 years of related experience and no degree.
  • PE in New York and/or New Jersey is required. Willingness to obtain PE licenses in other states.
  • Technical proficiency in environmental consulting services, including conducting and leading client facing remediation and environmental compliance projects.
  • Direct experience designing and implementing the in-situ remediation of impacted soil and groundwater, as well as vapor intrusion mitigation.
  • Direct experience managing projects in the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP) and Spills Program; and the New York City Office of Environmental Remediation (NYCOER) E-Designation and Voluntary Cleanup Programs.
  • Working knowledge and applicability of the NYSDEC BCP and Spills Program regulations; the NYCOER E-Designation and Voluntary Cleanup Programs; the New Jersey Technical Requirements for Site Remediation and the Industrial Site Recovery Act (ISRA).
  • Experience in providing reliable work product review as assigned.
  • Able to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with co-workers and Supervisors, and clients, subcontractors, and vendors as assigned.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated self-awareness and flexibility in working with a variety of personalities and work styles (colleagues, clients, Assigned Managing Director(s)).
  • Able to handle multiple priorities and perform consistently and positively under high stress conditions.
  • Knowledge of computer operations and standard software packages (word processing, spreadsheets, Adobe) required.

The Pay Range For This Role Is $109,000.00 - $299,000.00 USD annually (Geographical Tier AA - Sample Locations: NY Metro, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle) $101,000.00 - $276,000.00 USD annually (Geographical Tier A - Sample Locations: Irvine CA, Middlesex NJ, Tacoma WA, Boston, Alexandria)
