About the role

The Senior Project Engineer will manage a small project or a component of a large or more complex project with oversight. This position fully applies JE Dunn processes and tools to manage aspects of project management, administration, and field execution. All activities support the strategy, vision, and values of JE Dunn.

Responsibilities

  • Performs assigned aspects of the company’s safety and quality plans by demonstrating commitment to an injury-free environment through individual actions and mentoring others.
  • Coordinates with project QA/QC planning to ensure quality for assigned tasks.
  • Participates in the estimating and change management process, including quantity take-off and review of subcontractor proposals.
  • Works on-site to monitor crew size, self-perform hours, materials, quantity, and equipment.
  • Participates in punch lists, city inspections, safety reviews, quality reviews, and preparation of necessary documentation.
  • Posts drawings and specifications with the most recent information.
  • Organizes and participates in project meetings.
  • Prepares and disseminates required documentation.
  • Coordinates and inspects work, preparing reports such as project daily reports, weekly progress reports, unit reporting, percentage complete, daily manpower, production schedules, and equipment tracking.
  • Performs job site observations with project leadership.
  • Creates procurement logs based on the project schedule and specification requirements.
  • Tracks shop drawings and follows up on deliveries as directed by the project team.
  • Provides progress updates to support the scheduling process.
  • Oversees project close-out, including punch lists, operations and maintenance manuals, and as-built drawings.
  • Utilizes company best practice standards for building and construction techniques.
  • Builds relationships and develops communication skills with tradespeople and project team members.
  • Demonstrates understanding of various company functions and how they contribute to project success.
  • Collaborates and demonstrates teamwork in a project setting.
  • Implements Lean practices into regular activities.
  • Identifies, develops, and integrates self-perform opportunities into the project.
  • Leads the preparation of estimates for the base project, self-perform work, and change requests.
  • Establishes scopes of work and identifies subcontractors.
  • Makes decisions on the selection of subcontractors and vendors.
  • Coordinates purchase orders for material purchases, product changes, and repairs.
  • Supports and/or completes job set-up and project administration in CMiC and other company technologies.
  • Leads the submittal process to ensure alignment with the project schedule.
  • Prepares and manages the project schedule for assigned portions of the project.
  • Analyzes and reports production statistics for key project components.
  • Manages project risks such as subcontractor performance, financials, and resource allocation.
  • Coordinates meetings such as pre-planning, post-construction, monthly project reviews, progress, and Owner Architect Contractor (OAC) meetings.
  • Reviews and approves monthly subcontractor and vendor pay applications.
  • Demonstrates understanding of terms and conditions of owner contracts and subcontracts.
  • Initiates conversations about potential issues to foster a collaborative problem-solving environment.
  • Leads the project close-out process, including punch lists, quality control, cost tracking, and scheduling inspections.
  • Provides training and mentorship to others.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field (equivalent relevant experience will be considered).
  • 3+ years of construction experience.
  • Ability to perform work accurately and completely in a timely manner.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and project management/accounting software.
  • Knowledge of organizational structure and available resources.
  • Understanding of construction management fundamentals and project processes.
  • Ability to build relationships that transcend a single project.
  • Knowledge of Lean processes and philosophy.
  • Understanding of self-perform and labor productivity.
  • Ability to assess and optimize project productivity.
  • Knowledge of specific trades and scopes of work.
  • Ability to maximize profitability and lead teams to achieve production goals.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate internally and externally.

Working Environment

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • May require periods of travel and/or relocation.
  • Must be willing to work non-traditional hours to meet project needs.
  • May be exposed to extreme conditions (hot or cold).
  • Assignment location may include project sites and/or the office.
  • Frequent activities: Standing, walking, climbing, bending, reaching above shoulder, pushing, pulling.
  • Occasional activities: Sitting, viewing computer screen.
