Senior Project Architect
About the role
The Senior Project Architect (SPA) is the day-to-day delivery lead on complex architecture projects, running the work independently from kickoff through closeout. The role holds full technical authority within project scope—owning the drawing set, specification coordination, and subconsultant technical coordination—while partnering with the Design Lead on design quality and interfacing with the Project Management Lead on workplan and schedule.
Responsibilities
- Lead assigned projects from kickoff through closeout, managing the architecture team day-to-day and directing production of a coordinated, code-compliant construction document set.
- The SPA owns the drawing set and specification coordination and holds full technical authority within project scope, with engagement heaviest from Design Development through Construction Documents.
- Contract, fee, or client-relationship issues that fall outside project scope are escalated to the Principal-in-Charge.
- Direct technical coordination across all disciplines and outside consultants, holding subconsultant work to STV's technical and documentation standards.
- The SPA interfaces with the Project Management Lead on workplan and schedule so that production sequencing aligns with fee and milestone commitments, and partners with the Design Lead as a technical collaborator—supporting design intent through resolution and documentation while the Design Lead retains authority over design direction, particularly in early conceptual phases.
- Uphold code compliance and technical quality across the set, applying fluency in the New York City Building Code and applicable jurisdictional requirements through the DOB filing and approval process.
- The SPA contributes to STV's firmwide technical standards through national technical leadership—sharing project experience, participating in working sessions, and helping build the tools and standards that raise technical consistency across offices.
- Mentor Project Architects and designers on the team, developing technical skill and documentation discipline through direct project work.
- The SPA supports pursuits with technical-approach and project-experience content and may lead task-order proposals where appropriate.
Qualifications
- Registered Architect (RA) required; New York State registration held or obtained within 6 months of hire.
- NCARB certification preferred.
- 15+ years of progressive architecture experience, including independent project delivery from kickoff through closeout.
- Fluency in the New York City Building Code and NYC DOB filing and approval processes.
- Demonstrated record producing coordinated construction document sets for public-agency and institutional clients.
- Proficiency in Revit/BIM required; experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) preferred.
- Strong technical detailing, constructability, and specification coordination skills.
