About the role
As a key member of the ESG team, the Senior Program Manager, Sustainability will drive strategy, reporting, and internal/external engagement with stakeholders such as business development, account management, suppliers, and customers. You will work with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainability and diversity, equity, and inclusion within Direct Travel and affiliated companies like ATPI and Creative Group. This role reports to the Chief of Staff (ESG Lead) and supports both internal sustainability programs and client/prospect ESG initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and evolve Direct Impact—Direct Travel’s ESG program—by collaborating with subject matter experts across the organization and its affiliates (e.g., HR, Supplier Relations, Finance, Data Reporting).
- Measure, quantify, and ensure accurate and timely reporting on ESG initiatives, focusing on Scope 3 GHG data.
- Provide second-level support for client carbon data queries and insights when applicable.
- Create, manage, and report on committees and project team activities.
- Manage contract staff and third-party suppliers to maximize resource efficiency.
- Complete annual reporting directives and certification assessments (e.g., Ecovadis, CDP, CSRD, TCFD, SBTi).
- Initiate supplier sustainability assessments and engagement.
- Develop industry partnerships (e.g., GBTA, BTN committees).
- Serve as a subject matter expert for sales and marketing initiatives, including RFP responses, the Direct Impact Annual Report, client presentations, UN Global Compact updates, and internal/external communications.
- Drive governance and practices around social sustainability, wellbeing, and DEI in collaboration with HR.
- Collaborate with the Halo Product Director to maximize client value, upsell opportunities, and new business development.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in ESG-related roles (professional qualifications are a plus).
- Working experience in the corporate travel or hospitality sector is strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical skills in carbon accounting and analysis.
- Ability to balance strategy with execution.
- Comfortable managing relationships across all organizational levels.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (public speaking experience is a plus).
- Remote position with optional office-based work depending on location; must be self-motivated, able to work independently, and possess strong project management skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams) and carbon accounting platforms.
- Familiarity with global travel (Scope 3) carbon accounting methodologies (e.g., ICAO+, IATA CO2 Connect, DEFRA).
- Experience completing sustainability certification audits (e.g., Ecovadis, CDP).
- Basic understanding of GHG standards and regulatory frameworks.
- Estimated up to 10% travel required.
Qualifications
- Degree in Environmental Science, Business Sustainability, or Sustainable Tourism Management is ideal.
