Overview

The 711 Human Performance Wing (HPW) advances human performance in air, space, and cyberspace through research, education, and consultation. The Wing supports the most critical Air Force resource - the operational military forces. The Warfighter Machine Integration area needs to fill the DR-03/DR-04, Senior Program Lead, Human-Machine Systems.

Position Duties

  • Direct the design, development, and integration of autonomous, C2, communications, and Human-Machine Teaming (HMT) systems
  • Refine control systems to ensure precise, reliable human integration with AI and machine systems for enhanced mission operations
  • Conduct comprehensive simulations and physical testing to validate hardware/software control systems in human-to-machine settings
  • Perform risk assessments for system failures and ensure compliance with USAF, FAA, FDA, ISO, and ASME V&V 40 standards
  • Serve as technical task lead, manage assigned program resources, and provide technical direction for contract efforts

Required Qualifications

  • United States Citizenship
  • Must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance for the position
  • Candidate must be able to meet the qualification requirements for one series in the 0180, 0801, 401 or 1550 series: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/#url=Occupational-Series
  • Applicants must have at least one (1) year or 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to next lower grade level in the Federal service or equivalent in an alternate pay system
  • This is a Drug Testing Designated Position. The incumbent may be subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing
  • Must file an OGE 450 Public Financial Disclosure Report upon appointment and will be required to file annually

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge in Human Factors, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, IT, or a related science/technology field
  • PhD in a relevant science field preferred
  • Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating novel Human-Machine Teaming (HMT) and Human Systems Integration (HSI) Science & Technology (S&T) initiatives
  • Strong track record analyzing complex human performance and behavioral sequencing datasets
  • Proficiency in Python, Linux, and MATLAB is highly desired
  • Hands-on experience managing S&T research efforts within the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) or broader DoD environment
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams, mentor junior researchers, and deliver highly effective written and oral briefings
  • First-author publications in human performance or related scientific fields are highly preferred
  • Record of developing creative scientific and engineering solutions to complex technical challenges
