Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs, and coordinates the work of survey staff, engaged in surveying earth's surface and preparing maps, drawings, legal descriptions, and exhibits of land.
  • May dedicate a significant portion of time to map checking activities for municipalities and serving in a City or County Surveyor capacity.
  • Supervises office and field operations as required to oversee and coordinate staff toward the production of survey deliverables, such as mapping and mapping review tasks, field survey operations, and coordination with other consultants, subconsultants, stakeholders, and other surveyors of record.
  • Subdivision and Parcel Map Checking
  • Lot Line Adjustment & Lot Merger document checking
  • Easement and Right-of-Way Acquisition and Vacation document checking
  • Act as City/County Surveyor for cities and counties throughout California.
  • Preparation of easement and right-of-way legal descriptions and plats.
  • Ability to respond to questions and recommend appropriate administration of the Subdivision Map Act and Professional Land Surveyor’s Act.

  • Work with various divisions (engineers and architects) within Willdan to provide necessary services, such as boundary and topographic surveys, aerial photogrammetry, airborne lidar, terrestrial scanning, preparation of legal descriptions and plat maps, coordination of appraisal and acquisition services.
  • Legal work - Provide law firms, title companies, and cities technical expertise in the review of defective title, reformation of deeds, expert witness.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to surveying staff.
  • Maintain project budgets and timelines to ensure efficiency and profitability.
  • Ensure the quality and accuracy of survey data and deliverables.
  • Oversee office survey staff.
  • Monitor employee development.
  • The City/County Surveyor provides survey map and document checking services, along with consultation support for Public Works and Planning Departments.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university, or equivalent work experience.
  • Active California Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license.
  • At least 10 years of progressive professional land surveying experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with preparation and review of subdivision maps, parcel maps, legal descriptions, lot line adjustments and lot mergers, right-of-way engineering, easements, records of survey, corner records, ALTA/NSPS surveys, boundary and topographic surveys, and design surveys.
  • Prior experience serving as a City or County Surveyor is strongly preferred.
