About the role
The Product Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager for the Data Center vertical. They work within the Engineering Department to design, develop, and document Chiller designs within the scope of products manufactured by the Data Center team. This position will be responsible for the development and transfer of technology including but not limited to documentation of products that span across Climate Solution Regions (Americas, EMEA, and Asia).
Responsibilities
- Design & Develop new Chiller products or modify existing to meet customer requirements and create supporting documentation based on project scope, market needs and regulatory requirements for the Data Center Vertical.
- Evaluate and design electromechanical products by applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer and materials.
- Manage finite element modeling and structural simulation for the products. Interpret FEA results and recommend design changes/directions to meet product performance requirements.
- Interface with other Modine regions, CS manufacturing locations, and/or customers to assure a smooth transition from one region to another with global product development.
- Support the manufacturing team in developing manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components.
- Assist with customer applications with heat transfer, energy and/or chiller system designs.
- Review of approval and manufacturing drawing packages.
- Support other engineers and designers with product development projects related to design and documentation as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related technical discipline with 5 – 10 years engineering experience, or a master’s degree in engineering, a related technical discipline with 3 – 7 years engineering experience.
- A strong fundamental background and/or experience in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics and psychometrics.
- Five plus years’ experience specifically with Chiller, HVAC, or unitary design.
- Experience with sheet metal, rotating equipment, compressors and heat exchangers is a plus.
- A working knowledge of a 3D CAD System, FEA & CFD software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analysis and problem solving skills.
