About the role
The Judicial Department seeks an experienced Probation Officer to manage cases, conduct assessments, and facilitate long-term behavior change for clients court-ordered for services. The role involves collaborating with various stakeholders, mentoring less experienced officers, and participating in professional development.
Responsibilities
- Document client-related activities and review court orders.
- Conduct face-to-face appointments and interviews.
- Conduct on-going assessments to determine treatment needs and risk to the community.
- Develop appropriate case plans to guide supervision and ensure compliance with conditions imposed by the court.
- Assess, prioritize, and respond to critical incidents and potential risks in the field and office.
- De-escalate hostile/agitated clients and potentially violent situations.
- Complete a variety of reports to assess criminal behavior.
- Provide relevant information and sentencing options to court.
- Submit comprehensive compliance reports to the Court including revocation documents.
- Update the Court as needed and provide professional testimony.
- Attend meetings at outside agencies such as family engagement and community supervision team meetings.
- Inform staff, stakeholders, and public on Victim Rights Amendment.
- Respond to community feedback regarding clients and probationers in the community.
- Collect victim statements/positions for various court proceedings.
- Collaborate with others in focus groups, work groups, or committees designed to further initiatives at the local and state level.
- Attend meetings and complete trainings as required.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, human services or related field.
- OR Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate's degree in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, human services or related field and two (2) years of work-related experience in criminal justice, law enforcement, social work, psychology or related field.
- OR High School Diploma or G.E.D and four (4) years of work-related experience in criminal justice, law enforcement, social work, psychology or related field may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required formal education.
- At least two (2) years work-related experience in criminal justice, law enforcement, social work, psychology, or related field; one (1) of the years must have been as a Probation Officer for the Colorado Judicial Department.
