About the role

Do you want to edit and translate technical information into concise, understandable language that makes a difference on a national security scale for a key nuclear deterrence program? If so, you could be the Technical Writer and Editor we are seeking to join our fast-paced, multidisciplinary team here in Livermore, CA!

What Your Job Will Be Like

  • Work across the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio) to write, compile, format, and edit highly technical content (e.g., documents, presentations, memos, white papers) for a nuclear deterrence program.
  • Work with a team of technical writers and editors, subject matter experts, and management to ensure content meets the needs of intended audiences.
  • Exercise quality control over documents intended for external distribution, interpret and uphold communication policies and procedures, and coordinate documentation release.
  • Gather accomplishments, produce monthly reports, ensure requirements are met, and assist with presentations for program reviews.
  • Embed within a technical team to better anticipate upcoming documentation needs and provide more efficient, informed support.
  • Record actions and key items during critical meetings and reviews.
  • Demonstrate experience and confidence as you interact and partner with colleagues, business center and technical leadership, high-level visitors, and senior officials.

Pay and Benefits

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite at least 50% of the time, and as business needs arise be available to work onsite 100% of the time.

Salary Range: $104,000 - $201,000
Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications

  • We Require: Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Journalism, or other relevant field plus five (5) years of experience in technical writing and editing; or Master's degree in a relevant field plus one (1) year of relevant experience; or equivalent experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job.
  • We Desire: Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Communications, English, Journalism, or other relevant field, including a scientific field.
  • Experience editing documents and managing their development.
  • Experience with common Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q-level security clearance.

About Our Team

You'll be part of the Nuclear Deterrence Communications and Information Management department; a dynamic team that provides communications, technical writing, information management, and program support expertise for the W87-1 modification program.

Posting Duration

Security Clearance

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted. Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs. If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Position Information

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years. Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
