About The Job
As Senior Principal Scientist I, Lab Head, Protein Engineering within our R&D team, you will lead a multidisciplinary team within the Protein Engineering group at our Cambridge Crossing research site. In this role, you will collaborate closely with two complementary labs within the Protein Engineering group Structural Biology & Protein Design and Developability & Analytics to advance our protein engineering capabilities and drive innovation across the group.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead protein engineering strategies for the design and optimization of multispecific antibodies, Fc-engineered molecules, fusion proteins, and other next-generation biologic modalities using experimental and computational approaches.
- Design and execute antibody engineering campaigns including affinity maturation, molecular format engineering, developability optimization, and functional optimization through structure-guided, computational, and data-driven design.
- Develop and continuously improve protein engineering platforms utilizing yeast and/or phage display, high-throughput screening, saturation mutagenesis, in silico-guided library design, linear expression cassette (LEC) workflows and automation.
- Partner closely with LMR Digital Biologics and global Protein Engineering community to integrate computational modeling, protein language models, machine learning, generative AI approaches, and experimental validation into engineering strategies.
- Identify and implement innovative technologies that enhance engineering efficiency, data quality, and scientific decision-making across biologics discovery.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of 5 scientists (scientists to principal scientists) while fostering scientific excellence, innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Contribute to global LMR Antibody Engineering initiatives by establishing best practices, sharing technologies across research sites, developing platform capabilities, and driving scientific innovation throughout the organization.
- Communicate scientific discoveries through presentations, publications, patents, and external scientific engagement.
