About the role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Power BI/Fabric Data Engineer to support the implementation of our Microsoft Fabric and Power BI reporting environment. This role will focus on designing and implementing scalable data models, semantic models, notebook-based data transformations, and Power BI reporting solutions.
Responsibilities
- Data Modeling & Semantic Models
- Design and implement scalable dimensional models and semantic models within Power BI and Microsoft Fabric.
- Structure complex datasets using fact and dimension modeling techniques with star and snowflake schema solutions.
- Analyze existing data structures and implement improvements for scalability, performance, and usability.
- Optimize model relationships and reporting performance.
- Microsoft Fabric & Data Engineering
- Build and maintain Fabric-based data solutions including dataflows, pipelines, lakehouses, warehouses, and semantic models.
- Develop notebooks using Python and SQL for data preparation and transformation.
- Integrate data from multiple source systems and prepare data for reporting and analytics consumption.
- Support data engineering activities required to enable Power BI reporting and analytics initiatives.
- DAX & Reporting
- Develop advanced DAX measures, calculations, and performance optimization strategies.
- Troubleshoot complex reporting and analytical requirements.
- Build and enhance executive and operational dashboards using Power BI.
- Support paginated reporting and Report Builder solutions where appropriate.
- Security & Distribution
- Implement row-level security and security group-based access controls.
- Support reporting distribution, user access, and data extraction requirements.
- Assist in establishing reporting access models within Power BI and Fabric.
Requirements
- 5+ years of Power BI development experience.
- Advanced DAX expertise with demonstrated experience solving complex business requirements.
- Strong dimensional modeling experience including:
- Star Schema Design
- Snowflake Schema Design
- Fact & Dimension Modeling
- Complex Dimensions
- Semantic Model Design
- Performance Optimization
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric implementation and development.
- Experience developing notebooks using Python and SQL.
- Experience designing enterprise reporting and analytics solutions.
- Strong understanding of data integration and transformation patterns.
- Experience working with complex and highly related data structures.
- Ability to quickly understand existing data environments and contribute with minimal ramp-up time.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience migrating reporting assets to Power BI/Fabric.
- Databricks experience a plus.
- Experience with Report Builder and Paginated Reports.
- Experience implementing row-level security and security group-based access controls.
- Experience with Power BI Report Server environments.
Pay
$50.00 - $55.00/hr
